There's a surprise Soulman, a politician who can't give a straight answer and seems to avoid the question asked of them😂
The Green Party simply haven't got the nouse or experience to govern and their idealism is frequently too far removed from reality. To be fair though, I like some of what I have heard from their recently elected MP, Hannah Spencer. I think she is spot on when she talks of too many people in this country who work hard but see little or no improvement in their lives and of the impact of both the Gig economy and evolving technology on job opportunities. She has also raised concerns at the misogyny and "boys club" culture that is still too common in Westminster.
The Green MP in the clip isn't wrong when she says that one of the causes of racial hatred in this country is growing inequality, declining services and the squeeze of the cost of living. But this isn't rocket science and history shows us that this has frequently been the case where falling living standards and prosperity can play a big part in the rise of racism as those at the bottom are too often persuaded to find scapegoats for their situation.
But she doesn't mention all the other factors that come into play (well, not in this clip). Is she genuinely ignorant of them or is she deliberately avoiding speaking about these other issues? Such things as anti-Semitism based on a confusion about the differences between being Jewish and being a right leaning Zionist for example or religious hatred of any stripe (eg Islamophobia) or, of course, the fact that there have been too many examples recently of illegal immigrants in this country committing heinous crimes. And that's before we get to mentioning xenophobia or racism based purely on the colour of some-ones skin or heritage. It's a straightforward question around a very pertinent topic and whilst the answer to it might be quite complex and nuanced that shouldn't excuse any MP from answering it.
