Just read an interesting article on The Times website which talks about the effects of European Leagues declaring seasons null and void. Should such action be taken there would be breaches of contract invoked with broadcasters who have paid to cover a ‘full season’. Clearly the main League to be concerned would be the EPL who could potentially be sued by Sky for £3 billion, but obviously also in Scotland, BT Sport would be able to successfully sue - this being in a country where such an action would have a critical effect on Clubs outwith THEM. Apparently there’s no argument, it would be a clear breach of contract and the TV companies would win in court, so basically Leagues are NOT going to be declared null and void. They will have to be finished in some shape or form.

If that's the case it's good news for us, for sure. This is some sh!t show though.

The other thing about ‘null and void’ and writing off the season as if it never happened is what then decides who plays in Europe etc the following season? If there’s no Champions, then who gets a Champions League spot? How about the Europa League spots since there would be no winner of the Scottish Cup? In other words there has to be a decision, you can’t just shrug the shoulders and walk away.

Do we really think there's going to be lawsuits when we're in the middle of a Pandemic? This could go on for months. Into next season even.

    With Sky? Yep, absolutely.

I reckon it will get into the beginning of May and the only way around things as a last resort will be playing final league games behind closed doors. What about the players you may say? But at the end of the day the rest of us working punters are having to go about our normal business as we can currently, so players really shouldn’t be any different.

I've already had an email from NowTV (Sky) assuring me the postponed games will be shown when they take place...

Defo, its not going to stop me working until i catch it or it passes. Bbc sport has an article that includes Peterborough utd, they have managed to buy testing kits at £150 a pop £6k in total so to test players and have them in for training (one use each or one for each player?) This is the route that clubs should/ will go down in order to get indoor games played. If and when ( end of the month?) everyone starts to cancel sky sports especially pubs n clubs, sky will have their lawyers on overdrive. Teams up and down the uk will simply not get paid moneys they now rely on. Maybe this whole thing will get football back on some sort of earth like planet re moneys involved wages etc. But i doubt it.

The thing is that for broadcasters, now that we are approaching the ‘business’ end of the season (I hate that phrase BTW), these are the matches that will attract the highest viewing figures, advertising revenues etc which is what actually finally makes them their profit on their investment. There is absolutely no danger they would shrug their shoulders, take a massive financial hit and walk away from it. Rightly, for once, the Government wouldn’t/shouldn’t cover this and so it comes back to the Clubs and there is no way they will simply hand over wads of cash. There will be a solution to this, even if it’s closed door jobs, but there will be a solution.

It's a real possibility football competitions this season will be null and void. How do folk feel about that?

    Absolutely gutted if that happens.

Simplest thing to do is to end leagues now and reformat them according to average points gained from number of games played. Also have no play-offs, with only top and bottom being promoted / relegated. This would avoid fixtures backlog and issues with players contracts as well as clearing the ground to focus on public health. In the Championship, United would be promoted and Partick relegated.
    Points Average
    (Current Points ÷ Games Played)

    United 2.107
    ICT. 1.666
    Dundee. 1.518
    Ayr. 1.481
    Arbroath. 1.384
    Dunfermline. 1.321
    Morton. 1.285
    Alloa. 1.107
    QotS. 1.000
    Partick. 0.962
