I'm struggling to accept players are signed on the back of some numbers and a video reel. Yes, video footage and stats help to identify a potential target and these will be shared with the coaching staff, but the player will still be scouted and assessed in the traditional way before a decision is made.

Richard I'm assuming and very much hoping that durham's comment was very much tongue in cheek.

If not it's a very out of date and inaccurate comment based on guesswork.

Maybe so, but just wanted to clarify that that modern scouting still require the need to have players watches in the skin as well as on a show reel.

If I remember rightly it was said before Sam was signed he hadn't played for 8 months before signing, and Rodrigues hadn't played 6 months before signing, so I'm guessing they hadn't been seen in the flesh, but they seem to have turned out ok. But, I do agree that any UK player should be seen in action before being signed.

I think the difference with Ruben and Sam is that we were in the middle of lockdown and a pandemic. That said, there would have been people in the professional scouting network who would have seen both of them play at some point and offered an opinion.

They've turned out better than ok whatever method has been used.

If it's not a combination as described by Richard above then I'd be in shock. To suggest the club sign players without using scouts or seen them in action seems far-fetched to me to say the least. You'll be suggesting we sign players without a medical next lol#burgervan

Accrington do not employ a data analyst, other than those on work experience working with the u/18 youth team.
