I'd play a 4-4-2 every game anyway, so 4-4-2
Hear what you’re saying, but the only other option to get 4 at the back (which we need there IMO) is 4-4-2.
I don’t think we’ll win the “midfield battle” set up like that.
Miovski is great, but he’s not a target man or the type of guy to run the channels, provide an out ball and hold up play up front - just not his game.
Duk absolutely is and that’s the skillset we’ll need down there going by previous experience.
You need to adapt your formation to suit the occasion and opposition. I genuinely cannot see us winning down there starting with 2 up top because of what it means for the rest of the team set up…
I can't see why a 4-4-2 would lose a midfield battle.
How’s that working out for you so far DeeDon?
Its not about the 2 of them - its about the required setup for the rest of the outfield players against that opposition at that venue.
Maybe, just maybe, we need to consider the opposition, situation and style - like I said…
It might work, if you pick the right 4 at the back and 4 in the middle.
Can’t have Clarkson and Barron in that setup.
EDIT - Reply to Donsdaft
It's not me it has to work out for, its the team and only my opinion which really isn't worth a f*ck. I have no issue with us adapting to a style and sticking but the real issue for me is at the back and midfield as that is where we are losing games, especially the opening stages and I honestly don't think it is all down how we line up, the quality of some of our players just either isn't good enough or they are struggling to adapt.
I like both Miovski and Duk as players and think we should try and fit the team around them, the only games I would consider dropping one to the bench are for games against the bigot brothers.
EDIT: Responing to the Moog.
Fair comments DeeDon - I think we’re in “violent agreement” on most things here tbh.
Its not all down to how we set up.
Some of the players aren’t good enough or struggle in a 3-5-2 formation.
I also like Miovski, but too often in away games he’s a passenger, like he was last night again.
But we lost that game primarily because Goodwin picked the completely wrong set up for Livi away. 3-5-2 with McCrorie at the back instead of in midfield and Barron and Clarkson in the middle was just ridiculous against them - it was never going to work.
The fact he even thought about it, let alone did it, frankly shows he’s either stupid, naive or clueless tactically - maybe all 3.
The game at Dundee about this time last year told me Glass was not the man and it wasn’t going to work. Last night had a lot of similarities to that for me.
A tactical simpleton won’t last long. Sadly, I think it’s becoming clearer by the week that Cormack’s picked another dud.
Martindale is tactically pretty good & that goes a long way in this league.
Not for a second suggesting that he should be our manager, just saying he’s better than the one we’ve got
