Well fits the bill, so must be a certain transfer in!

Josh Onomah amongst latest rumours and Michael Smith from Sheffield Wednesday a resurfacing rumour. Have to say, over a quarter of the way through the window and judging from the pre Christmas suggestions, I expected rather more ‘flesh on the bones’ by now.

I think you're the only one expecting flesh. I wouldn't be surprised to see nothing in, and if any then at the end of the month. We have however solidified our hold on two of the possible three outgoings which is equally important

Maybe Warne has decided he can manage without a midfield, just defence, wingers and attack - 'the winged wonders', a sort of anti-Ramsey

Subject to injury we have Hourihane, Bird, Thompson, Fornah, Smith, Robinson plus Sibley / Ward as utility players. Yes a hard man CDM would be nice, but it's hardly "empty". Joey Barton to make a comeback perhaps

I’d be absolutely amazed if there’s no ‘flesh’ - significant signings - given the ‘noises off’ we’ve been hearing from the man himself since November.

You don’t say things like ‘I made a mistake last January’, ‘last season was a failure’, talk up potential signings in the ‘window’ and then produce nothing. Sure we can look forward to some strengthening, GP.

P.S. Wigan’s Callum Lang seems to be the subject of a battle between us and Portsmouth.

For start these are media reports rA, to what extent they reflect exactly what Warne has said is open to question. Secondly, what he has reported to say is contradictory, yes he said he made a mistake in signings last January, but then countered that by saying he wanted to sign players better than what he already had and they were effectively restricted to loans and he signed two that were to improve the team but who didn't produce.

This time a round he has qualified his desire to get signings in, with but January is a difficult window, you can target players but they can cost over the odds.

So all we have is the DET talking about a potential "triple" signing, Warne making mumbles about what he would like but cautioning we might not get any and the usual rumours flying around based mainly on journo's fantasies.

I can already see you will be harrumphing IF we don't sign anybody and in the event we don't make the play offs, blaming Warne for not signing players!!

But the thing is, if there are no decent loans out there and if clubs such as Charlton won't sell a player then where do these signings come from? I think we may get a couple of loans and maybe a signing of a player not getting game time with a club, but we shall see another 21 days left for something to happen.

Of course they’re media reports. Unless you’re claiming to be an ‘itk’ how else are we meant to know what is going on. We rely on the media/internet and occasional informed rumour.

Warne said he only wants to sign players ‘better than what he already have’. That’s hardly surprising is it? Did you expect him to say ‘I thought I’d look for someone who’s not as good as we’ve already got’?

‘Harrumphing’? Not sure about that. Disappointed? Certainly...because I don’t want to see a repeat of last year and because the noises coming out of the club, and PW himself have suggested that deals are there to be done. It’s not easy I appreciate, but neither is it as if everything has to suddenly happen on January 1st. They have had months to identify targets and prepare bids.

You think we ‘may get a couple of loans and maybe a signing...’. We agree! That’s all I’m hoping and suggesting. Just hope whoever comes in this time will be fitter and have more impact than some of those who joined in the summer.
