    Enjoyable thread this. Why did they demolish that magnificent spire darn Regent St? A crying shame. It's the same wi Cooerthouse railway station, av seen some pictures o that and it was far grander than the midland one and coming in on a viaduct as opposed to the antiquated barrier system we currently have in place. I appreciate these buildings may have been deemed perhaps unsafe but instead of restoring them and keeping some character in the tarn centre they demolished them in favour of the concrete monstrosities they are pulling down as we speak.     We wo working in Blackburn t'other day and a could see that magnificent Chimney stack at Darwen- India mills. A great piece of architecture and an astonishing feat to build considering some of the Stones on the overhangs at the top weighed around 5 tonnes each and were somehow hoisted up there when it was built in the 1870's
