To put a positive spin on this, it's much harder to put right problems scoring goals than it is to stop conceding them. Attacking talent comes from skill and spontaneity which your players have either got or not. Defensive solidity can be coached into a team, even with limited ability, if they're taught to do the basics right. It can be worked upon as the season progresses.

Well I'm pleased as that should considerably lower the NCM panic levels following the full time whistle for this pre season friendly.

Hopefully no injuries that's always the key element for me before the season starts.

Some thoughts after that much-improved 2nd half

Taylor is a much better LWB option than Chicksen.
On that evidence Palmer seems to have more on-the-ball presence than Francis in the holding role, as you'd expect from a player with 200 more FL appearances.

Ruben looked like the best player on the pitch - no surprise there. Cameron was really good as well.
Ruben and Cal played the same role, the one from the front 3 dropping back deep to pick the ball up. It still remains to be seen how IB will devise a scheme to allow both to play together. NA's 4-2-3-1 succeeded in this at the start of last season.

Solihull are likely play-off contenders at worse this season. The first 15 mins was shambolic, but everything after that we can be pretty happy with tbh. Weird game of football.

As many have mentioned JOB gave us a lot more drive & desire in the middle of the park. We seemed to then be able to link defence with attack, which was sorely lacking in the first half. Thought Palmer looked better sat in front of the back four and got a lot more involved than Francis did. Central defence also looks a lot tighter with just two in there.

If we have any sort of aspirations as to promo, we need to be taking 6 points from bang average sides like Solihull, IMHAHO.

Just not good enough , this is exactly the type of team we should be winning comfortably against, 2 poor goals let in again ,slocambe looks crap, until we stop leaking in goals we are going no where, and will be over run by poor to mid table sides

Funny that. I bet anyone watching that will be saying the same about taking 6 points off Notts. We know that the 11 that started won’t be the 11 that start next week. The likes of Ruben and even JoB put the performance in that 2nd half to be strong contenders to start next week.
The National League is tough. Club names and reputations don’t exist. Players the same.
The over reaction throughout this thread is an embarrassment to those who typed away.
Out of the 2 sides Notts will have got more out of that game. Having to put in to practice playing with 10 men. Player fitness. Coming from behind.
Yes some negatives, but also positives to give hope for the season ahead.

Well, they've got Wrexham at home opening day, so that'll be interesting. In general I agree, we can't be dropping points against bang average side, but I'm not sure Solihull are one. I suspect any team that gets a point away there this season will be pretty content.

Not that it's even relevant in a friendly anyway. Notts got loads of useful stuff out of that today in the end.
