Thread: McNulty

  1. #101
Personally I thought McNulty was a good signing before the season started, there were mitigating circumstances around his lack of goals last season, most notably he was played out of position most of the time as Shankland was still there. However, he has had plenty time now in his favoured position and is just not delivering.

But, building a good side needs to start from the defence and we have that part of the game covered. Now we need to move on and get better up the park. Signing Watt was a great start of that.

I always remember my dad used to say build a team through spine, good centre half good guy in middle and guy no9 , he used to go united one week next Ds. Says loads people did it in 50s... i still do not think its bad idea trying that again, even more so now . there is so little money in scotland to buy players

You were doing so well in my eyes as well!

My dad in the late 50s and through the 60s went to see both sides, and when both teams were away, he would be one of many who went through to see Raith as well!

However, its bad enough to put ourselves through what our team are serving up, but to set foot in Dense as well?

Neilson did that with Siegrist, Reynolds/Connolly, Butcher and eventually Shankland.

Micky did it with Siegrist, Edwards/Reynolds, Fuchs and Shankland, or thereabouts,

Tam has Siegrist, Edwards/Mulgrew, and not much else forward of that! However, i am now minded to say the teams best foundation is Siegrist with Edwards/Butcher/Graham in front of him.

I am minded though to ask if you are basing your reply on having watched the Livi game, something that i thankfully did not see. If it is based on said game, i think it is harsh eluding to the Livi players being man for man less gifted than ours?

Sad fact is, there are players in that Livi team that i would welcome with open arms just now, and maybe some of the coaching staff as well!
No Chick, wasn't meaning the Livi players.
Was meaning that a good coach should be able to take a group of players of any age and even basic skills and over a fairly short period of time coach them into a style of play.

I accept that some of our players are limited technically compared to what Sevco and Celtic are able to buy but that doesn't mean they are unable to be coached to achieve an identifiable method of play. We just don't seem to have consistent method.

A few teams weve struggled against have less glamorous named players but they've been identified by their clubs and signed to fit into a style of play and coached into that style. They don't just play the first available pass, they play the best available pass.

We've done it too this season but only in flashes. We don't have a settled first 11 never mind a settled way of playing.

I think we have a decent back line for our standard its really good, but its a bit everything great defending , good defending all hand on deck defending, woeful finishing great goal keeping, OGs we have it all.

Not done any research on it but would be interesting to know how much that Bodo Glimt team cost that destroyed Celtic in Glasgow. Possibly a bad example but anyway...

When they got possession back from Celtic in front of their 18 yard line they were patient, players moved into positions in space so that the guy with ball always had the option to play it to an unmarked player. So often our player with the ball sends it towards a player with an opponent right on top of him. The result being hurried possession and we more often than not give it back. Once moving into the opponents third they knew how they were going to get their strikers in on the keeper.
(This was how McLeans cheaply assembled sides regularly took on more expensive sides and did well)

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I hoped Courts would have us doing more of that by this time.

Also just going back to what Craigbrew said, surely we should be looking to our more technically gifted players to give us a midfield that does it? So that would mean Mochrie and Glass. The latter is in Ayrshire and Mochrie can't get a start. Get a harder player in beside them who can break up play and feed them and maybe....

As I said on a different thread McNulty can score but needs in on goal, Watt ditto.
Our midfield is beyond tragic and we won't be consistently good until it's sorted.

Funny though that this and your previous reply was a pretty accurate description of what has been achieved at Livi for the second season in a row!

Yes that is a cracking point , how much did that team from Norway cost to assemble, cause anyone watched they both legs, it could have been a tanking, they have been coached by a proper manager no question.

I have said it for months we are saying to players don't lose the baw, we have to get this out of our game, its killing us , i watch livi i see they want the baw i see us long its no me loses the baw its someone else, and you wonder how the hell we are struggling to score goals.
