Where do you teuchters get the ‘ra’ from when impersonating weegies? Replace it with ‘eh’ and you’d be much closer to getting it right.
The first time I saw that particular phonetic was decades ago when Malky the cartoonist had a Big Yin strip in the Hunday Liam.
The only time I’ve particularly heard it was when an FE colleague from Paisley (and a Saints’ fan rather than a gloryhunting twát) travelled to Helsinki on a “project evaluation”and one of the Finns asked me why he said ‘ra’ rather than use the traditional pronunciation of the definite article. “He’s a near-weedgie cûnt” was tempting as a response, but I desisted.
Its simply called a Chip Shop ffs 🤦*♂️
Aye !! + Whatever happened to Fish & Chicken Bars tho. ...??
As one of the resident teuchters I can confirm it’s definitely, definitively a chipper in the shire. But I suspect it’s also a chipper in the toon. Unlike butteries, this is something on which the NE is united.
(As someone who was and is still sometimes called ‘wee Jimmy’ by all the auld wifies in the village even as I tower over them, I felt a prickle of resentment at the anti-Jimmy sentiment of a previous poster. I fear despite my dislike of identity politics in all its forms I may need to become a woke keyboard warrior who defends the rights of Jimmys everywhere to assert their unique identity. But then again, having to side with the great unwashed of SW Scotland might just be too great a barrier to overcome. So maybe not.)
Aha. I was just wondering how to work the roll/rowie/buttery conundrum into this melee !!?
Or is it butterie.......
