tend to agree with that, seems to slow us down without producing any good forward passes

He's obviously a class player for this division but he's not tearing the defenders apart like the Derby supporters thought he would do. Still half the season to go though so he may do yet.

    Couldn’t agree more.

What we’ve been lacking in recent weeks is intensity - without that, we’re far too easy to play against. Is Didzy part of the problem there? Maybe, but the bigger problem comes with a Palmer-less midfield to up the tempo.

McGoldrick is clearly a great player and some of his touches and skills are way above L2 level. But if we take away the sentimental aspect, I’m not sure he’s the type of player who would have been on our radar this summer. I was hoping he might be a bit of a cheat code at this level, and while he’s had some sublime moments, I don’t think he’s achieved that. Even so, there’s no way he doesn’t start in any Notts XI I’d pick.

McGoldrick brings tons to the team. He's the only player up top capable of holding the ball up, and his link up play is excellent. He scores goals too. There's very little downside to having McGoldrick in the team in my opinion.

Yes, Didzy has shown his worth as a Notts Player, he’s been great overall.
But he’s started throwing in a non-performance or two now, which confirms that we cannot flog a 36 year old every game. For example he should have gone off after the hour against Walsall with Austin moving forward. We can’t keep him on the pitch just because he’s over 5’ 10

I’m a bit torn in hindsight we have needed him with Scott injured and if we are continuing with the current formation could have austin played consistently in that role at this level? Plus he’s had to fill in at centre mid.
If Scott hadn’t got injured though having a top class CB with what we know now would have certainly balanced us up and made us more solid I think.
Signing wise I think CM is priority as the system doesn’t work without a quality player in there but obviously very closely followed by a CB. Keeper wise I don’t think either are terrible but if somehow we can bring someone in then great but it wouldn’t be my priority.

What would be everyone's best starting 11 with what we have available?

    I'd go

    Brooks

    Brindley. macari. Baldwin .chicksen

    Nemane Bostock Crowley jones

    Mcgoldrick Langstafff

I could see Crowley doing a job for us in midfield, he's great on the ball, great energy and creative , with Bostock sitting deeper

Just an alternative to the 3-2-4-1

Wooton was similar for us when holding the ball up and he scored goals and after a slow start last season at Stockport he is now showing his worth. He would have probably fit in well with Macca.

The issue for me with a 4 at the back is I don’t think we have the full backs to push on and create chances.
Brindley is reluctant to go forward and chicks for me hasn’t quite got that creative side, both would be solid enough but in todays game and our ethos of playing attack minded football I struggle to see them or Macari giving us that much creativity.
