Good read Derek. I agree with your assessment of where we are as a club and the type of manager we need to be attracting.

I reckon that the majority of fans who I know, (noting that most have been around since well before NYS), want to see a Rotherham side that puts in 100%. If that happens, the results are secondary as most understand the constraints that we operate under.

I think Warne struck just the right balance in taking reasonably talented, but not vastly expensive players, and instilled in them a pride in the shirt and a desire to match the opposition through superior fitness and effort. The excitement created by taking on and sometimes matching the big boys, along with dominating when we came across similar sized clubs (League One), was sufficient to keep the fans engaged and optimistic.

The new fans who've come along since NYS may well have different and higher expectations - but unless the club gets major investment, they're going to be disappointed.

Give me the Warney rollercoaster every time and I'll be satisfied.

meeting friends. Getting away from the norm. Watching a game of football enjoying a beer.
I was chatting to a mate a few days back (before Evans got sacked) who's had enough. Not coming again. I asked. Ok what did you do last Saturday (international weekend). He thought for a few seconds and said "I don't know".
My reply. And what were you doing the Saturday before (Wycombe home game). His reply. Watching this sh?te.
Back to your original post "we are what we are" and some need to accept we won't be anything else. No matter how much we complain
    Good points well made Cayton.

Some contributors on here allude to something happening behind the scenes with Warne and TS that will prevent Warne coming back. I have no idea what happened but what I do know is that when Warne went to Derby he was our biggest asset. As I say, he was starting to get it right, we were playing well, his personality was a hit with the wider media and his achievements on a small budget got him noticed. So as you point out, naturally we lost him to a bigger and better set up. The same has happened with any players who's careers flourished at Rotherham, they get noticed and move on to bigger, better and more money.

So you're right, very fine margins indeed and a few seasons competing at tier 2 level probably is our ceiling and always will be unless there is a vast infrastructure change. But for all his faults, when TS is finally ready to throw the towel in and sell up, we have to be careful what we wish for. For every Ryan Reynolds looking for an expensive hobby, there's potentially a Steve Dale (Bury chairman when they folded).

I for one would dearly miss the match day experience, whether that be in the Championship or the Vanarama North.
