Really,? I'd sell shankland before Benji given he's earned us more points
I thought we played pretty well yesterday to be honest, after we went 442 that is. I mean it could easily have been four nil at half time, what a match Benji had. However, the goal we scored was coming for about 20 minutes before that and in the end we deserved it (at that time I mean, not overall). Great point that arrests the losing run of two previously, happy with that.
Finally, just to add I thought Shanks played quite well holding the ball up and linking play, hopefully he'll get a lucky goal soon and his confidence can get right up again.
Watched the game this morning and glad I never saw it live because I'd have been behind the sofa for 60 minutes.
First half I counted 12 times we punted high forward balls when not under pressure to do so. Why are successive managers allowing this.
Anyway, as everyone has said we rode our luck and Beji was magnificent. I think he'll be away in January.
Absolute top credit to Micky Mellon to make those subs. It completely confused Jack Ross and it completely confused his players. Up to that point we were predictable to them, they knew exactly what to do.
And 100% top credit to Paul McMullan who's taken a lot of criticism on here, some from me. His driving runs and forward balls changed the dynamic completely. He started to find pockets of space and the Hibs defenders didn't know what to do. When they came to him he played it to a man in space, when they backed off he ran at them.
It was this doubt that eventually led to our goal. So well done PM, he deserves a start on Wednesday.
Second week in a row that one of our wide players/fb's has scored. We also looked much more threatening and had more attacks/shots than a lot of earlier games.
So you have to say that's encouraging.
Jeando starting to settle, what we need, someone to play it short, keep it moving, be patient. He did get caught a couple of times but he's still learning the Scottish game.
Butcher- what exactly is the script there, get a booking each game then get a rest?
I feel we're improving, bit by bit. Teams below us will continue to take points off each other and the 2 glasgow teams will continue to take points off them all. We're not in a bad place given the handicaps we started with.
I think we will sell, but hopefully at a decent price. Celtic was my first thought too but it could get interesting. A contact of mine, ex GK working at a senior level in Engerland says Benji is getting talked about a lot down there so we may get bids from more than one club. Benji seems a bright lad, may want to be in England instead of Glasgow.
Hard to put a value on a player in the pandemic though.
If Celtic can't get Foster on loan they might be desperate enough to make a move for Siegrist, but with all the keepers they have on their books at present, I honestly can't see them pushing the boat and and spending big, if they made a move, and given their previous dealings with us, it would be the usual, pay as little as they can with a derogatory bid, the only thing is they might be desperate enough to get a deal done early in the window for once rather than drag it to the end as usual. From United's perspective I don't see the benefit selling at this stage, as January is notoriously difficult to pick up quality players, and in my opinion if he keeps playing at this level his value will rise, and there will be more suitors interested summer. We can maybe get a creative midfield loan player in perhaps short term or youngsters might come back on loan.
From the players point of view, he needs to be playing, he is 29 in Jan, and has spent the majority of his career not playing, i think he has played something like 150 first team games through his in his career (about 90 them at Utd), even accounting for keepers playing longer, that is a low number of games to have accumulated, you can see how he has improved with regular football. If I was him I'd be staying at United for this season bare minimum, maybe even next. Needs to play to keep improving (mite even learn to save a pens). Could have another 8-9 years playing, but just going to stall again if not playing.
The question is though can we afford to take that chance that what we have currently available in the middle of the park is good enough to keep us up? I don’t think we can and potential relegation this season of all seasons is something we just cannot risk as the consequences don’t bear thinking about. To strengthen the middle needs funds and unfortunately to get those funds in January regretfully I think means only one thing.
Hazzard looks a bag nerves along with their whole defence, Brown looks past it too, not sure why they brought him back in to their line up and kept him on.
