Yesterday was a big result for a number of reasons. It effectively converted the point against Halifax into a good one. It was the second away win in a row playing the new system, indicating that we are indeed a stronger team playing this way. It restored hope that we can at least make it into the top three by the season's end. And it should give the players confidence that they can get a big haul of points from the forthcoming series of games against other promotion challengers. If we do, then a really strong finish to the season could be on the cards.
Is that what happened? I was halfway down the terrace so saw nothing more than a big gathering and a bit of a commotion next to the food outlet. That plus pairs of stewards jogging down the front from the other end of the ground.
I didn't care enough to actually move from my chosen position for the game to see what all the fuss was. I just assumed, as is all too common, that it was Notts fan fighting a Notts fan.
Why anyone would want to punch a steward especially pregame is beyond me. Hopefully he was handed over to the football police that were on duty yesterday.
Hope that's the case jackal2, it was certainly imperative we won. Thankfully we did and deservedly and comfortably so.
However I was speaking to Woking club representives and fans after the game and they reiterated how bad they are at the moment. I was told that's there 10th home defeat of the season and they were also without their best two players. As their manager said they were far from full strength and the injury during the game made them even more disjointed. This needs to be factored in IMO
Understandably they were very impressed with the opposition in the second half. "We didn't lay a glove on them" and "it was far too easy for you to pass around us, pass us off the park" were two of the complementary remarks made to me.
Their main critisism was they play 3 at the back and none of them can carry the ball out from the back or hit a decent ling pass, unlike our club captain. Plus they are no threat from set plays.
As for Notts great to see Nemane contribute so much and impress. Bar one awful pass each Palmer and Francis were excellent throughout with some fantastic switching of play.
Wootton's hold up play and lay offs in the second half were sublime as were some of Eli's touches. Still annoyed he didn't shoot after he rolled his foot over the ball and run at goal. You also couldn't fail to notice Rodriques workrate, his defensive work off the ball was great to see.
As usual for Notts one bang average half of football where we look mid table at best and one half where we look genuine title contenders with great football on the deck = playoffs.
Did anyone actually understand a word of what their manager said in that interview lol
