The big problem was as soon as the 2nd half kicked off they went 3 up top and pressed us far more aggressively so Stone had to kick long virtually every time and until TAR came on McGoldrick is the only outlet who has a chance of winning it in the air first ball(we have a smaller side than last season) so it’s certainly not just Stone’s fault although I would like to see dinks over the midfield to Macca or Didzy’s feet

Most of his kicks just went straight out, we’d have had to have players 7ft tall to get anywhere near most of em. He had a couple of chances to throw quickly to JJ but didn’t take them. I’d imagine most of us would have thought we’d have to go more direct at times this season, Stone doesn’t seem very well equipped to do it though.

Before yesterday’s game the stats that NCFCOG published 3/4 of his passes are accurate although I don’t like the one straight down the middle although he did hit one that put Macca through 2nd half but as I said before very difficult to pick out a player if the player marking them are bigger and better in the air

Fascinating game today, FGR were much better than the table suggests….or are we not as good as the table suggests….or somewhere in between?

The start of the second half was pretty worrying. We couldn’t get anywhere near them until they scored twice, and even then it wasn’t convincing stuff….it has me feeling against the likes of the stags, Swindon, Stockport and even Wrexham, we will have to up certain parts of our game. Somehow I am still questioning where are level ultimately lies at this level….October will certainly clear that up.

Another honest and encouraging post match interview with LW too.

We got worse after Baldwin and Bostock went off.. If its not broke then dont try to fix it.. Sometimes it looks as though we make substitutions just to keep everyone happy...

I think that is true Bostock was excellent my guess with Baldwin is we are looking after him.

The reaction of Bostock told he wasnt happy to be taken off so he wasnt injured.

I think a win like this is good as we were sloppy and no doubt LW wont be happy with what he saw today.

Deeney is a class player for this level but in a struggling side but he was a handful today.

Think that’s unfair, we conceded two goals with both players still on the pitch. Whatever happened at half time, whether we lost focus or FGR just improved (or both) it was quite unnerving! They looked like strangers for a good 20 minutes and there were some dodgy performances…. But that happens at this level. What they did do was stick together and worked out a way to win against a really decent side.

Second half they did what I think Grimsby did and pushed the fullbacks up. This meant our wingbacks couldn't get out and then one of the two centre midfielders had to help out so we had no out ball. We should either have switched to 4 at the back earlier or bought on TAR before they scored the first, would have saved us some issues. Probably my first ever mark against Williams for that, not reacting quick enough to an obvious move

Possibly the next mark against him was playing Camaron in a left side midfield role where he stuck out like a sore thumb. Then he didn't sub him, possibly to not upset him as he is a valuable player, but just not in that position.

I don't know if anyone else noticed it but during the pre-match kick-about when both Stone and Slocombe were wandering about the penalty area at the Kop end, they never spoke to each other or even made eye contact. Hmmm...!
