The SNP politicians keep banging on about wanting to increase the welfare payments but they fail to admit that they have been given extra welfare powers which they will not use because it costs the Scottish Government too much money.
Michael Russell the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health and Life Long Learning admitted this when he was a panelist on a BBC Question Time programme about six years ago.
Islay, I think the trouble with where we are today, in Scotland, is really because devolution was intended to stop demands for independence in its tracks. It is such a flawed model that I don't think Labour will be able to make it work even if Starmerism is in power in Westminster.

They are not public institutions per se are they? Do they receive 100% government funding? Do they charge students for tuition? One description I've heard for them is not for profit organisations - but yet they're not charities either.

Let's revisit the original point though.

Tell me why the children of millionaires are less entitled to free education and health care than those of people on minimum wage. Is it because mummy and daddy can afford better?

Show me where I said they were less entitled.

British Universities are charities because they provide education. Private schools also have charitable status, at present, because they provide education and they are non profit making entities.

You can't insist that you go to the university of your choice. They select their undergraduates on the basis of exam results, interviews, economic pressures and pressures to give places to students from areas of social deprivation.

    Westminster
    43 SNP, 7 Conservative, 4 Lib Dem, 2 Alba, 2 Labour, 1 Independent. Total 59

Struggle to see how Labour are going to make a break through unless there is a realisation that the best thing for Scotland is to give up on Independence as a form of protest and actually vote for a change. SNP voters need to switch directly to Labour imo.
It has been absolutely pointless having SNP MP's in Westminster and the possibility of a hung Parliament looks remote. Better pick the winner and be on the winning team for a while, imo.
