Secondly the football played last night was an absolute joy to watch. Look how Happy Shankland looked with the young full backs offering so much galloping forward and in particular Freeman who put in some excellent crosses and took his goal really well. To have someone with Shanklands ability being absolutely wasted was criminal last year and hopefully he starts to enjoy his football and score goals again...no doubt he will still be feeling bitter about missing out on the Euros and tbh i think he could have made a difference as we(Scotland) were crying out for a natural goalscorer with the amount of crosses and chances we created.

The young lads coming through at the club just now all look more than capable with some extra special talent in there. I still think we lack pace and honestly im really not a fan of going into the season with Harkes as a starter in midfield. Wheres Deco Glass these days? New signing or 2 still to come hopefully.

I realise it was only Elgin but under Melon we would have been lucky to win that. Positive signs but a long way to go. Can't wait to enjoy watching my team again win lose or draw.
Good post, a very welcome one too 👍

Agree, like some I saw the same squad and thus was thinking the same performances, which I was not looking forward to.
We are all screaming for more creativity and attacking football and if this lot are capable of delivering against premier teams then happy days.
A couple of additions please and who knows we may improve on last season.
However, not getting carried away as these are teams we should be beating easily, but happy faces on the pitch and less shouting from the touchline augers well.

    From The Courier regarding Alexander

Courts took the chance to rubbish reports of a bust up between he and goalkeeping coach Neil Alexander, stating he has enormous respect for the former Rangers stopper.

Alexander wasn’t present at Tannadice and Courts said he can’t provide an update at this stage as to whether Alexander will be staying or going.

The Terrors gaffer added: “There’s nothing definitive.

“Since I came in I wanted to take time to look at structure and the personnel. There will be something in the coming days on that I’m sure.

“He’s still an employee of the club. There’s been no bust up. I’ve known Neil since I was at 17 when we were teammates at Livi.

“I have enormous respect for him as a pro. There’s been no fallout as such and it’s all still very amicable.”

There is good spine of a team there if we can keep siegrist, Edwards, Fuchs, and shanks. Just as big as signing players. And if some youngsters can step up to plate that will enhance our squad.

But we need some quality additions big time, in some obvious positions, and have done for well over a year now, so surely should have something lined up. Saying that, would rather go with what we have than sign some last minute duffers.

Arbroath should be a decent test.

We are delighted to confirm defender Ryan Edwards has committed his future to Dundee United by signing a new two-year deal, keeping him at Tannadice until 2023.

The towering centre-half arrived last summer and has made a total of 33 appearances in Tangerine. Ryan became a regular in the backline during the second half of last season, a run that saw him keep eight of his 13 clean sheets so far at United and help the club to a Scottish Cup Semi-Final.

Ryan has also proven to be a threat at the other end of the pitch with a total of four goals for the club, most notably being his header against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Final.

"I'm buzzing to get this new deal done," said the defender. "My time at United so far has been brilliant. It's the best group of lads I've been with in my career both on and off the pitch, it was a no brainer to want to stick around.

"We finished last season a point outside the top six and a cup semi-final, this is a club that's going places and I want to be part of that. You also see the fans getting back in Tannadice last night and the atmosphere that brings so I can't wait to see the place packed out fully.

"I had discussions with Sporting Director Tony Asghar at the end of last season about extending my stay. Then with the arrival of the new gaffer and him laying out his plans for myself and the team it made me even more excited about committing my future."

An exclusive interview with DUTV will be available later this evening.

Brilliant stuff. You know what - this is in many ways much much more important than any new signing. Building a consistent squad who get to know each other well both on and off the park is much more sensible and a helluva lot more likely to provide sustained improvement on the park as opposed to wholesale changes year upon year. We do not need any new defenders now. One attacking midfielder/winger and a big striker and we're there I feel.
