I’m going to stick with Micky’s line of “we will only bring in players who improve our quality...” so I’m happy to trust that this boy will do just that. He might just feel that teams are getting at our back line too easily in the Premiership hence beef up in that area.

Watched an analysis of Crystal Palace on MOTD last week which singled out their 2 x defensive mids as the reason they are able to push much higher up with attacking threat....

If we’re also bringing in a further 2 attack minded guys then I’m fine with everything (pretty sure Micky won’t have given his thumbs up to a signing that would jeopardise his main priorities up top)

Any player that is going to improve us is fine by me .Butcher isn't cutting it imo as his work on the ball has been really poor and if Powers(who hasn't had a chance) isn't deemed good enough by MM then get this lad signed.

Let's be honest here apart from the goalie and our star striker i'd say any other position could be up for grabs and improve us.........now where's that money tree?

Two 4-0 thumpings probably more to do with it.

Then surely we should be looking at CB's unless Butcher is dropping into CB and thats why we're signing this lad?

It's an interesting debate, but apart from Scott Burns referring to the lad as a defensive midfielder no one has said he definitely is. On his own wiki page he simply describes himself as a midfielder.

My theory is that maybe MM has looked at our complete inability to keep possession, something that badly needs fixing, and the club have now decided that any new players need to be able to find a pass consistently.
You don't play for France under 20's or Cameroon if you give the ball away a lot.

I trust the club 100% to get it right, they will also think he fits our buy and sell later model.

The club are bringing this lad in with a view to selling him on. That has to be the model more so now than ever with no revenue coming in through the gates.

Good news is the impact of Covid aside, the club is in a pretty healthy position. Outside the current top 4 not many of the clubs have as many sellable assets as us (Aberdeen and Motherwell have cashed in on theirs in this window).

Shankland is easily a £3m-£5m Scottish international.

In Neilson, Chalmers and Mochrie we have highly rated youngsters that academies down south would be interested in buying as has happened in the past with H Souttar and more recently Scott Banks. Hopefully more to come from that conveyor belt with all the ongoing work too.

Less likely but likes of Siegrist, Robson, Harkes and Sporle could also attract bids if they develop in top flight this season.

Interesting and totally left field signing if it happens. Seems he has been used in a few roles DM and AM. If we get the 3 signings in being talked about that would be good but i hope the by is a creative mid and not defensive - unless we simply create from the wings? Chalmers could make our season very exciting (then again he is young and could burn oot).

I'm only pointing out that the - 7 goal difference is down to two good hidings, one that was pretty much expected and one that wasn't. I think we are creating plenty of chances, just not taking them. I think a quality striker to play alongside Shankland is our biggest necessity right now but if this lad adds quality in that area of the field I've no issue with us signing him. Whether it means someone is on the way out or not, who knows. Hopefully Adam King who looks a long way from the managers thoughts.
