Absolutely isn't in our own hands. The future of Smudge is firmly up to him and his family.

We probably can give a big contract to Smith but what about other squad members when their contracts are up for renewal?

Wiles for example, would we bust the bank again for him to stay?

It’s not the wages of an individual that’s the worry, it’s the overall cumulative wage bill

We've had this so many times over the years most recently last year with Alex Mowatt .

You put your best offer on the table but if another club can top it and usually they can significantly then what else can you do .

I can live with players under contract that have their heads turned because at least you get a fee that can be put towards a replacement .

But when you lose key players like we did with Mowatt and possibly yourselves with Smith for nowt it's a killer for clubs of our size .

I don't blame the player at all but none the less it's a tough one to take .

I sincerely hope he does sign a new deal because he'll be tough to replace .

To be fair though everyone has Neen open and honest about this. Same with Cheo now. He was clear he wasn't going to sign an extension and the club had a choice. Cash in or hold on and gamble. We took the later option. It looks like we're doing the same with cheo

All this for a core support of about 8000?

Makes no financial sense to “ push the boat out” there’s no return on the investment

Luton were close to getting in to the Premier league on crowds less than ours and hospitality revenue much less.Just needs a little more ambition, there's no reason why we can't do it.Give the manager the support he needs TS.

Luton is a great example, along with Blackpool,Millwall and to some extent,Coventry. We obviously don't know the level of investment at these clubs or the financial backing that people are prepared to 'write off'.It is also worth remembering that we were 2 minutes from staying up last time so it's not like we were well adrift under our previous strategies. That is why we will always be strong in League 1 when we don't over stretch ourselves in The Champ. At least we are not like Norwich, they don't even try in the Prem and seem quite happy taking the 'parachutes' every other year.

7 million every year in the championship .

More when new contract gets sorted.

Bigger gates away end and home.

Charge more for advertising and sponsorship.

    Squad valuation goes up.

    On sky every Tuesday (paid)

    More appeal to investors.

Smudge banging in 25 goals in league 1 = 2 million.

Banging in 25 goals in championship = 5 million plus

    On a contract that is
