Haha, yes. Kind of need to stick to things that freeze or store well, and are not cheap in supermarket or flown half way around the world and wrapped in plastic. I do find growing carrots a complete waste of time. Totally hit and miss, generally half the crop spoil and the ones that survive are mostly gnarly and crap. Why bother when you can buy 5 at the supermarket, locally sourced, packaging free, for about 20p.
But I've barely had to but beans, broccoli, squash, parsnips, tatties, onions, garlic, beetroot, sweetcorn for years now. Probably works out a wee bit more expensive but it tastes better and gets you outside! And my allotment is about EUR35 per year.
My efforts, in reality, have very little impact on saving the planet. I just like eating stuff I grow, any other benefits are an added bonus 😀
