I've had this discussion/argument with a mate who's a big gee gee backer.

I've even asked him to rewind a race and I've shown him where, a jockey holds back on the reigns. He said I was talking bolox but I know what I saw and he didn't like it Bent as s.hite horse racing.

Possibly. Here's one for you all, didn't Norman Vaughan once do a scene as a jockey where he won a race and 'Roses' (the chocolate advert) just grew on him from his sleeves or am I just thinking of this? I seem to recall they were just 'popping' out of him?

My brother was offered a job( when he'd retired) at a trainer based at Southwell. He used ride the retired horses along with his girl friend at the time. We went to Donny and one of this trainers horses was running. After my introduction to him, my brother asked if we should have a bet on his only runner. "oh no, it's been injured, and we're just giving it a run out"..........how many had a bet not knowing that it wasn't even trying to win. This trainer had a horse called Sandberg Denim(something like that) and my Dad always got the nod, either bet to win or EW, it won my Dad a few quid. It was the early 90's, Dad died 1996, bless him.

You are right Brin, if you search there are various old black and white clips of TV adverts showing the roses growing on him. I too seem to remember a jockey themed one but no trace of it via Google.

Now not saying in the past & still at smaller meetings races are reviewed & if a jockey hasn't ridden their horse to gain it's best finishing position rules are in place to ban them. From what I can gather all races at the Cheltenham Festival were reviewed not heard any jockey being banned cause of this. Does happen I'm sure still horses aren't given that hard a race to get it's handicap mark down to a winnable one.
