To be fair there’s a massive ‘open goal’ now waiting for a middle of the road party (with a common sense approach) to come in and mop up, for the minority ‘vocal’ (like on here) I think there is a balanced proportion of the population that sees through all the bias on all sides and will do the right thing for the country, I remember the last election when one of Labour’s desperate proposed policies was ‘free internet for all’, fortunately people see through the desperation.

Interesting thread, I tend not to post on political stuff because I just don’t get it. What I mean is that how can people be so divided about something that effectively makes no lasting difference?

Blue, red, green, yellow, rainbow….it doesn’t make any difference because they all have to borrow money from the same people, please the same people and need media coverage from the same people. As long as governments depend on outside influences then we will stay on the same hamster wheel until something big breaks…and then it is too late anyway.

Admittedly, governments are allowed some control over the some things, things that do not interfere with the interests of outside sources, but as soon as they do the media and big corporations turn against them.

There is no media bias apart from that against those who wish to truly break the wheel.

For the sake of balance, they didn't see though 'Let's get Brexit done'. There were a lot who fell for that one!

But the majority still voted them in the last election regardless, and as I said before not one of the few on here posting about the 13 years of incompetence has yet explained to me how they kept getting voted in these 13 years?

Exactly, my stance too, I just don't understand how people think it will be better with anyone else? If I remember rightly when the Tories took over didn't Liam Byrne leave a hand written note saying there was no money left? Be careful what you wish for.

"But the majority still voted them in the last election regardless". I might be mistaken, but 44% of the votes went to the Tories. That's a lot of people who don't have a say in how the country is governed.

If the UK had a system of proportional representation in the last few years what do you think would have changed?

    I'm curious.

All of the remaining voters do have a say in how the country is governed. Which is why they vote. What would be a good start is if voting was compulsory with significant fines for not voting. A staggering amount of people (not just in the UK) are lazy about a basic democratic right. Even turning up and writing bunch of fools or whatever on your voting paper. The system of PR here is questionable but the enforcement to vote is important and I agree 100% with it.

I'll explain, it's because for the first part of the 13 years Labour provided such woeful opposition. In 2019 it wasn't a General Election, it was a Brexit Election. The vote had been won 3 years previously and much of the electorate was sick and tired of the dithering. Boris Johnson said he would "Get Brexit Done", and that earned loads of votes. The problem is that all his pledges turned out to be lies.

Exactly, what would or could be different? The answers could possibly explain why proportional representation will never be a thing. I was trying to explain to my son why I often don’t vote, and it’s generally because I feel like nothing ever changes and nothing ever really changes because a single vote in this current paradigm doesn’t really mean anything….like it would in a proportional representation system.

I remember finding it strange when I first went to vote that it wasn’t for the prime minister I wanted but a local constituent/MP. So, if you liked the look and sound of a particular PM candidate but the local MP is an absolute crook then you’re torn.

The system is broke, but it’s by design.

OchPie how do you know the country has no interest in voting for them. I think more and more people are waking up to the fact that both Labour and The Conservatives do not have the interests of this country at heart, and that nothing will get better under their rule, so they might well just think f*ck it, lets give Reform a go. They would obviously get into power through a general election, how else would it happen, as for the last part of your post, I think you need to take a wee bit more water with whatever you have been drinking, or go back to the normal ciggies.
