I can only guess Courts set us up 352 because that's how he's going to play in the league games. But the problem with that system is you're losing a 4th man in midfield and you'll need a very good 3 to make it work. We don't have that yet. Might have been better going 451 tonight, getting the creative players we do have like Chalmers Fuchs and Mochrie behind Shankland and looking to create space on the flanks.

If Courts persists with Pawlett and Harkes in midfield we're going to struggle. (The body language between Courts and Pawlett at the substitution looked bad) We have to add a midfielder and a striker.

Giving extensions to Pawlett and Clark was a disaster, no clue what Asghar was thinking there.

But...a win is what was needed and we move forward.

There were, as you say, some positives to take. Personally thought Clark was up there with one of our better performers. So disagree with some of what you say. Dropped into space took the ball in the turn multiple times. Chalmers made a difference though. So unpredictable compared to the rest

3 at the back can be very attacking. Our perennial problem remains we are far too deep defensively. Results in wing backs and midfield being too disjointed and leaving too much space. If we could be 10-15yds further up, you can create situations like the goal when the wing back receives the ball very high. If we could do that, 3 at the back could work well for us.

First game, stuff to build on. Early signs are to me that Harkes and Pawlett can't fit in the same team at present. Interested to see what changes for Wed.

Watched most of the game on my phone on hesgoal so probably missed a fair bit of the stuff you guys seen but here......let's not judge after 1 game of what is nowadays a hybrid of friendly and competitive football. Whether we like it or not the season nowadays starts with a bang,it's a national trophy that in the early stages mainly gets used to get the players match ready and match fit and as much as I want us to compete for this trophy its been brought down in importance since the format changed and starts so early.

We got the win so happy with our start.

Here is the message i was sent relating to what a Kelty official said.

Tam Courts shouting at the players in the changing room the players are shouting back at him, massive arguments.

    That's it,FACT.

There were very few positives watching it on a big screen mate. Shankland our best player, good performance from Freeman. Chalmers confused them when he arrived and probably made the difference.
It was a repeat of the Cup game at Forfar, for long spells you wouldn't have known which was the Premiership team.
Overall it was pretty dire. But it didn't have any preseason friendly about it at all.

I would have got a hammer and planks and nailed wee Pawlett in the toilets so he couldn't get out. Then I would have pointed to Harkes and said you're f in next if you don't take a game. Over to you Mark I'm off to get a coffee.

Joking apart, the issue here is that Tony Asghar has retained the services of 4 players who should be away, 4 players who are taking up wages that could be paid to 2 good players who would make the difference.
