He is a dinosaur with his "tactics".
I try to give Southgate the benefit of the doubt, but, uh...
When we are playing well, we always seem to revert to hedgehog mode, rather than going for the jugular.
When things are going badly, I can't recall an instance where Southgate has made a telling intervention.
He is a dinosaur with his "tactics".
This (I don't know how to do an arrow pointing upwards).
I am the same. I used to love watching England play international football, but if it wasn't for my 16 year old, who we've brought to be a New Zealander as that is where he was born, but he insists on following England, I wouldn't watch another England game again.
For the last 10 or 15 years, the underwhelming-nous of England teams has left me bewildered and uninterested. I am one of the most patriotic people I've met, but I've turned my patriotism towards rugby and for some reason cricket. The England football team just makes me feel embarrassed.
I think it is the modern day 'professionalism' that is the issue. Like a previous poster said, players aren't allowed to express their individualism on the pitch and if any have that trait in them - they don't get picked.
I'd rather England get knocked out at the group stage, but play Keegan-esque football, than limp flaccidly to the knock-out stages to be beaten by a team who is just as boring, but it organised better although they aren't 'technically' better.
Gareth Southgate's style of play makes Otto Reihhagel's Greek team of 2004 look like they were the most creative team ever put together. At least the Greeks overperformed.

The tool has lost the plot completely. Blaming experimenting with TAA hasn't worked ffs. You have warm up games to do this, not when it's started. Then saying we never found a replacement for the world beater Philips.
Pack your bags Gareth, you've rode your luck. I pity all those fans that have had to save to go out there to watch the dross he puts out.
I'll give him one thing, he's constant with the crap he puts on. When was the last time you watched an England game & was entertained for 90 min?
I'm the same. I used to love England tournaments and regularly watched Prem games as well. Now, I just care about Notts. I watched the first half yesterday but then gave up and went outside in the sun. Like you, a home win on the opening day of the season would mean more than England winning the Euros. I didn't even watch the final we were in last time.
That was as poor a performance I have seen from a so called top level team. We were poor in every aspect and lucky not to lose comprehensively. The midfield is a problem and Kane can’t play up front on his own.
I likened our performance as one where u8s played against u10s - bullied, slower, smaller, not as fit.
Team is a mess at the moment. Rather than follow his tried & tested system, it looks like he’s trying to shoehorn players in all over the place, and the tactics have become very confused.
Trent in midfield should have been tested before the tournament, as it’s not working with Rice.
Just pick Jude as the 10, and stop all this Foden/Jude both as floating 10s malarkey. Stick Gordon or Eze out left, and use Foden as a sub.
Trippier as LB just doesn’t offer much going forward. Reminds me of Chicks when he wasn’t knocking them in at the back stick
Worth watching for a review of the situation
