That being said he is a goal scorer and eventually regerdless of where he plays if you give him chances he will score... hence his tally this season and the few he has grabbed playing in the 10.

I do still think he has a role at us, but that should only ever be if hes playing up top. With Shankland being the obvious first choice that may mean hes an impact sub for us, or we find a system that both them can play together.

I said he did "ok" there, more so in the championship but given he was having to do it in the system melon was playing, not exactly easy, I'm not even a huge Clark fan and it would be harsh to say he didn't do ok

Agree with the rest about being a sub mainly unless we decide on a, 4-4-2, but tbh otherwise in current system think guys like Harkes will be pushing for a place too so Clark might find it difficult to get a start in the near future

McNulty and Clark are different players altogether in my opinion. Clark as someone has said is more a penalty box player, McNulty as I have said can play behind a front 2 of Shanks/Clark or Louis/Shanks, he is a clever player, almost a roaming midfielder/attacker.

Bottom line great result yesterday and another step toward securing SPL status. On we go!

I'm not judging him on playing him in midfield but I'm of the OPINION that he lacks a lot of attributes as a striker at this level ie pace, the ability to beat a man, height for winning headers, strength for holding off defenders etc etc . He got away with it in the championship where the standard of defender was obviously lower but hes struggled in a lot of games to give us 90 minutes of consistency when given a game up front.

Pace and strength are king in this league for forwards and unfortunately this is where Clark lacks.
I dont think opinions work when it comes to a players position. He is a winger lol. Wasnt having a go. Just disagreeing with you. All in good fun though please dont take offence.

The facts are he's scored 8 league goals this year and might hit double figures so I'm happy he is in the squad. If he doesnt start every week then so be it. He was right taken out but im sure he'll prove him worth again when required in a more advanced role.

In terms of attributes, he has plenty you havent listed there that make him a more than capable striker in this league. In my opinion.

I don't actually think McNulty was a Mellon signing. We were interested in him before the new manager arrived and when Mellon came in, he was looking at Norwood. I get the impression McNulty is another player Asghar wanted and one that we had to make after the whole Hearts/Covid thing as we were running short and getting pretty desperate. I've also heard he's not happy at Utd. This would make sense given his performances and his attitude on the pitch, getting frustrated, kicking the ball away etc. Given you bring in strikers to score goals, he's been a complete flop and an expensive one at that.

    I agree with all that.

On the Tony A interview he said to the effect we needed to make sure we had enough up front (risk then shanks might have gone in jan but obviously not turned out that way).

It made sense when we were new to division to make sure we had enough strikers as they win you games.

Fwiw I agree McNulty looked good in patches but it hasn’t worked out. He quite consistently gets booked for kicking the ball away.

I guess we just have to wait for the loan to run out and then we both go our separate ways

Clark, McNulty and Shanks are all centre forwards. They have all said so in interviews. "happy to play anywhere the manager wants me to, but... " McNulty ......... "best position?" "up top , through the middle" Clark ..."up front, through the middle"

3 guys that can, and have, scored plenty goals. Problem was always trying to fit them in the same team.

Formation and player changes have been massive. Maybe forced, but. gless well half ful

All I’ve been looking for this season (as well as staying up) are signs of progress. There have been times (including very recently) where this has appeared to just not been happening. However, from the second half at Motherwell onwards we have genuinely looked like a decent, established Premiership team for the first time in a long, long time. Despite mostly the same personnel, the United side of 12 months ago would not have beaten Coonty away and Livi with an aggregate score of 5 zip. No chance. That in itself is surely positive.

I was thinking that - compare this team in terms of personnel to line ups that struggled v Alloa and Arbroath etc.

Jeando and Edwards yesterday are positive additions but other than that it is same team.

Credit to MM for now getting best out of them and we have been well organised all season 👍🏻

MM's positioning of Edwards is phenomenal, the lad wins everything in the air and now has the freedom to do that when we are defending set pieces. Not sure I've ever seen that before.
