One side did win and one side lost but that doesn't seem to matter.
    Sorry didn't see above post.

But we’ve not been able to agree on way to leave the Eu. Largely because of the unnecessary election called in 2017. But also because no one has worked out how to satisfactorily deal with the N Ireland issue. I don’t see how an election addresses the N Ireland issue and could well leave us in the same situation as we are now.

Just give it a bit of thought before posting this time.

Good advice which you should follow.

Did you miss the bit about the winners and losers or chose like others to just ignore it.

How would a referendum solve the Northern Ireland issue?

How would a referendum solve the current hung parliament?

Unless of course you think we would vote to remain, did you not like my referendum idea?

Do you not want an election because you are worried about the outcome?

I posed the question why is an election likely to be better than a referendum at solving the current crisis. Bearing in mind as well that we may well have a 3 month extension specifically to solve the current situation.

We can’t put no deal on the ballot because it would break the terms of the GFA. A referendum obviously wouldn’t do anything about the hung parliament. It would answer the question of whether we would leave with Boris Johnson’s deal.

I’ll say it again, who you think may win an election or a referendum is irrelevant to the question asked.

It seems like the government don’t know either.

Out of interest, why would anyone who thinks that a hung parliament at the next GE is a distinct possibility be deluded? Do you know something that the rest of us don't? The bookies have 'no overall majority' as a very marginal favourite, so it's obviously on a knife-edge.

What a mess a GE would be.

Die hard Labour voters who want out voting Conservative
Conservative voters wanting to remain voting Labour or Lib-DEm

    Or will they?

In addition, a Govt who will be able to push through virtually any policy on other stuff!

BJ has lost MP's - but that's his fault alone**. He's made a real mess-up imo and now is expecting Labour to get him out of it by agreeing to an election.

If he'd been willing last night to extend just for a short time to allow more scrutiny, I reckon he would have got it through.

Ken Clarke on Breakfast this morning spoke a lot of sense. Said he didn't want out personally but voted for it, and why is this date of 31st October so v i t a l. A short extension wouldn't matter.

** As advised by Dominic Cummings

It certainly would be a mess, although it wouldn't really be a General Election. It would be a 90% Brexit / 10% General Election. The things that really matter for the next five years like, health, education, the economy etc would only be secondary considerations. Votes will mainly be cast on the grounds of leave or remain, which shows what a complete shambles this country has become since 23rd June 2016.

If say the Tories won a overall majority what stops them putting a no deal back on the agenda?

Nothing is there? - if enough Tories would vote for it.

I reckon that's what BJ's associates want anyway.
