Again though if your having to pull a mask down for every boiled tattie or swig of lager your touching your face and the cloth which is full of germs far more.

Although I did think the cancellation of karaoke may have seen a march on Bute house from the likes of the Dolphin and ladywell tavern but apparently not......we are such a subservient race of people.
What do think we should actually do?

Get normal back, not new normal, changed normal, normal till vaccine that may or may not work........just normal.

Try and protect the elderly and vulnerable who are more suseptable (but still low chance) of death and start treating people who have real time illnesses now and not those who are perfectly healthy but have a minute chance of becoming seriously ill through one of many viruses.

Install Peter Hitchens as temporary leader.

    Couldn't agree more.

My experience of the NHS is very mixed.

You get very good, ok and duff employees like everywhere else......but saying anything like that is akin to speaking at the women's guild and having the opinion that jam making is dull.

The single thing that is preventing a return to normal is social distancing. I read of pubs that have to have a table booking system, 2 hour slot, reduced table numbers sometimes as low as 33% of their normal capacity. it isn't possible to return to normal at those levels of activity. The entertainment industry is completely shot so how are all these luvvies managing to earn a crust? Stopping furlough will instantly put many out of work. I think irms will go early to do this because they know that the social distancing regulations destroy their business plan.

Somehow to achieve a return to normal we've got to defeat the new normal, changed normal, normal until we get a vaccine mantras which are always driven by people who are not directly sufferring. I had hoped that we might manage to attract or invite someone like Hugh Pennington to contribute to the discussion. It's fine chatting on here and putting forward ideas but it might really help if there could be some input from "experts" who can follow our lines of thought. If you look for quotes by him, you just know that there has been some spin put on it by the publisher to make it fit their agenda.

Peter Hitchens would be a disaster as a leader. I like his ideas and his contrarian thoughts but he doesn't manage to inspire me to follow him, and I know you wouldn't follow him either! Still the comment made me smile!

Last week I was speaking to a holidaymaker on Islay who told me that she had heard that a Belgian couple who were staying in a hotel on Islay had tested positive for COVID-19.
As usual when there is any bad news on Islay people do not talk about it and know nothing about it. It is like living in SNP utopia and Brigadoon land.
I sent an email to Public Health Scotland expressing my concerns and asking them to confirm if my information was correct.
Last Friday I received an email explaining from a female at Public Health Scotland explaining how the Test and Trace scheme operated.
She hoped that her reply was of assistance to me.
I sent her an email advising her that her reply was absolutely no use to me as she had not answered my question and her reply was just a ‘cop out’.
I again asked the question and asked for an answer.
This afternoon I received another reply from a consultant at Public Health Scotland advising that she cannot give give me the information quoting duty of confidentiality etc. If I was not happy I could contact the Public Health team at NHS Highland.
I have sent her a reply which has dropped a bombshell.
Islay Golf Club in their infinite wisdom are holding an Open Golf competition which is taking place on Saturday 5th September and Sunday 6th September with golfers travelling from Mainland to Scotland to play in the competition on Machrie Golf Course.
If there is an outbreak of COVID-19 on Islay during the week after the Islay Open Golf competition it will be obvious how the virus has spread to Islay.
I then further added that people arriving at the Calmac office at Kennacraig for their ferry to Islay and Glasgow Airport For their flight to Islay Airport at Glenegadale should have their temperature taken. If it is above 38.4C which I think is the highest safe temperature they should be barred from travelling to Islay and told to immediately take a COVID-19 test.
These temperature tests would protect the residents of Islay and other Scottish islands which have the equivalent of a cottage hospital and on some islands no hospital at all.
This scheme should been immediately introduced on a daily basis to all schools, shops, pubs, restaurants and factories etc throughout the whole of the UK including Scotland which would soon discover who might be in the early stages of having the COVID-19 virus.
When I had my temperature taken at Kings Cross Hospital prior to my COVID-19 test my temperature was 36.1C which was OK. I was suffering from a slight chest infection.
