Still the best defence in the league (0.75 conceded per game) but way down in 14th for goals scored per game (1.30). 1st to 14th from one end of the pitch to the other is quite a big difference.

Still 3rd in the PPG but Sutton now level with Torquay on 2.00 pts per game. Eastleigh looking good now too, moving above us in the regular table.

Sam and Effiong aren't the answer - neither look to be natural and regular goal scorers.

I know Kyle is or was was 2nd in the scoring charts but he's the only one Notts have in the top 20.

Knowles is still learning his trade and maybe one for the future, and he isn't Notts' player.

As somebody wrote on here recently, Notts seem to wait for chances to come their way rather than create them.

I think we do need an experienced proven goalscorer at this level to support Wootton and take the pressure of him. Dennis was that man as he had done it at Macclesfield previously. I don't want to open up the debate about we should have kept him, or we let him go as that ship has sailed and you can't begrudge anyone wanting to play at the highest level they can.

What I will say is we need someone similar and of the same ilk and qualities as Dennis.

A Jamie Cureton type player. They are always expensive and every team wants one.

If we don't go up, this sort of player needs to be a priority.

Just out of interest, how many players will be over 30 (ex keepers) , in the close season, Brindley, Rawlinson, Turner, O'Brien, Doyle, McCrory, do we need younger quicker hungrier players ?

I really don’t believe that the problem is with the strikers, as someone said earlier, we could have mbappe up front and still not score. The issue lies with the midfield in general and Doyle in particular. It proved as much when Doyle went in goal allowing the midfield to start being creative and moving the ball forward. Some some reason Ardley cannot see this but whilst ever Doyle is allowed to control play, we will struggle and the forwards will have very few goal-scoring opportunities and we will have to rely on the odd occasion when either Enzio, Rodrigues (or Roberts when available) produce a flash of brilliance. WE cannot rely on this to get us promoted. Ardley have to see sense or move on.

It seems yet again Ardley is looking to sign another player. When are the owners going to wise up and say enough is enough? No other manager in the league is getting this sort of backing. It's time Neal started to get the best out of the talent he already has. We have been winning games badly for weeks, obviously it's great to win but the manner in which we've been winning is worrying. I really want to be wrong as i can't stand this dire league, but i just don't think Ardley is the man to take us up. On top of that Michael Bloody Doyle, i don't doubt he's good to have around, but he's not good enough to play anymore all he does is slow the play down. If you were to ask Notts fans what his best performance has been, they will say when he went in goal that's shocking.

Couldn't agree more, put the debit card away and let him manage through the problems he's created!

I think it goes deeper than that. There is no doubting that we have an excellent defensive record, but at what cost? It's great not to concede because you can't lose, but the flip side is that if you don't score you can't win. Somewhere there is a balance between all out attack and dogged defence, and I think Ardley errs too much on the side of caution. I believe we have genuine attacking options if we give them the ball earlier in a bit more space. When the build up play is so slow, ponderous and predictable it means defenders have plenty of time to get back and mark. I think it has a very negative impact on the number of goals we score.

We have pace in the side & don't use it. Our play is that slow we put pressure on ourselves for no reason then get caught out

I'm not going to say too much more as I decided to have an early few bevvies for a change in optimism and realised I'm probably posting too much . I don't agree with KC, Pedro etc in Ardleys absolutely useless, I think he's competent hence why on a top 3 or 4 budget he's had us in the top 3 last season and this. He obviously hasn't shown the xfactor (not a Saturday night gag) in he didn't keep us up nor are we running away with it this season. It's a really tough one for rookie owners, in that Ardley could get us up as Champions through a pragmatic approach against limited/similar opposition or they roll the dice if they think that's a better option, all comes down to who and no one on here's suggested who either, tough one.
