Intelligence - Russians low on morale & Putin getting angry with his nodding dogs
I should imagine that's true, but the Western side need to be careful with some of their rhetoric too, because an angry, isolated, humiliated Putin backed completely into a corner isn't good. They have to leave Putin an avenue out of the current situation that does not look like outright defeat, otherwise he's capable of anything in desperation.
He has a way out, stop & talk but he is too pig headed & even then look like a loser to most. He has dug himself a hole that he can't get out of. that's the worrying thing.
I actually think he is sick(ill) not long to live, (got very fat in the face) & wants to be remembered by history.
while leaving him an 'out' makes basic psyche sense, I think things are well beyond that and I'm not sure what 'a corner' is in this context. if what I'm reading about Putin's state of mind is anything to go by, he's already desperate to make his mark and seeing as he's already capable of unilateral war, I think all of the cards are already on the table.
it's more dangerous try and appease him at this stage, he'll just take it as a sign of weakness and press on with his game plan. I think we have to prepare to either make do with sanctions and accept the consequences of not stopping him, or stop him: presenting some kind of military opposition.
