Look at Klopp yesterday, his team were garbage but instead he blamed the pitch. While that seems ridiculous it's a very smart deflection tactic to keep your players with you. I feel confident in saying the Burchnall we saw in public, was different to the one the players saw in the dressing room.
FGR might be more progressive than old fogey Notts, but with Burch the fans can hope for forward thinking and get side to side football.

Maybe their more 'forward thinking' fans won't be as offended by lots of side to side football, as long as it creates chances and they score plenty of goals.

They might well be offended by the hapless defending the tippy tappers perform in the last minute of play off games! Not that I bear a grudge or anything. Good luck to Burch, unlikely our paths will cross for a very long time. A bit like his wing backs.

I know I'm biased but Ruben's part in that first goal is absolutely sublime. The way he opens up and turns when he receives the ball to open up space, the beautiful delayed pass to JOB for the nice one-two and then the nicely weighted accurate through ball to the goalscorer are all class. A joy to watch last season, and started the same this time around.

Great also to see JOB involved in two of the goals.

    Top post.
And all of that skill is what opened the game up (the first goal is always the most important). In English football, outside of the Championship, there might not be a better player for creative assists like that.
The exciting thing is that this season we have an in-behind threat this season who lives for service like that. We probably still haven't seen the best of Ruben yet.

And yeah, JOB's two first time lay-offs were beautiful

Another fantastic sign is Langstaff's 2nd touch for his 2nd goal. That was using your head in a melee of action, many strikers would've panicked and just snatched at a shot.
Bit of a stretch, but along the lines of this one...

Indeed it was, very few players at this level are capable of showing skill and creativity like that. I gave him a match rating of 6.5, on that clip alone he maybe deserved a 7. The problem is that almost anyone can look good on 'highlights' by the very definition of the word. They only show the good bits and not the bigger picture. What stopped Ruben getting a higher rating from me was the bits the highlights didn't show. His corners were poor, and the free kicks he took (one in a brilliant position) failed to hit the target. This isn't meant to be a downer on Ruben, because I love him and he would be the first name on the teamsheet for me because of the creativity he offers along with his work ethic.

His ability has never been in doubt, just the consistency to produce it on a regular basis. His anonymous games are now a rarity, so let's all hope he will be around to take us to the next level.
