That way we would have had a bit more time to negotiate for an alternative. There must be quite a few out there adequate to do the job we need.
Palace buy well and sell well. Not quite Levy Spurs level but always difficult to get a bargain out of old melted welly head.

2 ways of looking at it.

1 - Olise going to Bayern should have been the warning that they would stone wall and play hardball over the Guehi transfer. Essentially, they don't need to sell and why would they let go for anything less than the absolute top dollar? We wouldn't
Currently they're enduring a defensive injury crisis and are down to the barebones at the back. They're almost forced to play Guehi.

2 - We as a club are currying favour with other clubs in the league by lining their pockets and the addition of Mitchell will smooth the transition from Hated financial bully to establish league benevolent big boy with deep pockets who do good deals for respectable prices with the lesser clubs in the league.

We have to remember that 20 clubs in the prem, are all in competition with each other. The rules are shared however the game is still competitive and everyone wants their piece of the pie.

What is this post trying to say?

We're a club who has gone from 'also ran' to 'race leader'. Misery loves company, the other also rans are jealous and will need to be placated as the young duckling of the north becomes a majestic swan of international club football.

It's extremely frustrating for us fans and as usual we're the last to be considered in the grand scheme of things. We're just gonna have to suck it up and keep on cheering the lads (miggy, Murphy et al) to victory.

More games we win, more money we earn the sooner we get to hoist the silver and reach the promised land of title winners!

Being reported now that we're looking at Simikan from Leipzig an an alternative. Genuinely hope its true as the Guehi saga has really put me off. I'll be more dissapointed if we sign Guehi now than if we do.

I agree, completely underwhelmed if we sign Guehi now, he’s on a hiding to nothing and so is Mitchell and Eddie, don’t feel anything about it, apart from bored! Sad state of affairs, thankfully the windows almost shut, just hope we have persuaded Tripps to stay.

Prepare to be disappointed. Palace have just signed a new CB.

I would rather have that Simakan, tbh.

Guehi is solid, but nothing more. Not worth £70 mil. Thats world class price, not solid PL defender price.

Lots of sources saying the deal is more or less off.

The suggestion is that he is the only one Eddie wanted. Now if that's true, this is partly on Eddie, too, as you can't afford to be that dogmatic and narrow minded about one player.

We definitely have other targets but the price is going to go up for any of them.

Have to say that, if the deal does, in fact, collapse, I'm glad we're not paying £70 million for him.

Aye, this deal is dead - good news!

I would rather go with what we have than spending £70 mil on a average CB.

Not so good news for Mitchell though, he looks like an idiot now.

Hes probably not an idiot, but hes clearly not good at player recruitment.

I've replied to your other htread.

But Viking, to say he's not good at recruitment based on one playe in one window - you're talking rubbish mate.

That's like saying Peps a ****e manager because he loses a few games.

He is highly rated across the continent, give him some time and I think he'll come good.

Agreed. The meltdown is bound to be spectacular. I think the transfer strategy at the club is right under the PSR and the club has actually told us how they operate (will only buy if it improves on what we have already) but the vast majority of our fan base refuse to listen and think we’re being ‘left behind’ if we don’t sign someone….anyone….?
Well, we have a raft of players now who these same supporters would agree aren’t good enough for us now, are on big salaries and that we can’t shift. This is the thinking at the club IMO and the plan is only to buy players we are really sure about and combine them with the young players coming through.
I think the Minteh/Anderson episode will have doubled down this strategy.
