It was not the kind of performance we have put in in recent years and we will see quite a few "workman like" away games like that this season I think. Swindon were not much good and Notts star players struggled to impact the game. perhaps sulking from the club knocking back big bids for them? The difference is that Swindon had that talentless lump Smith up front and we had Mr Magic. We would have lost that game last season and I think we would also have lost it if Jatta had started. The team was the sum of its parts today and it was classic smash and grab. Overall a poor game, Swindon lack impact in the final third Notts have that bit of magic and woo hoo we can finally defend.
And that’s the beauty of football some Notts fans will say we deserved a draw yesterday because they were wasteful and didn’t test the keeper enough and we were clinical.
Against Fleetwood, they were clinical and we created more than them especially during that period of domination. Never deserved to be that close to losing that game.
It’s all about opinions. Yesterday we could have played much better and lost and we all know what the critics would have been saying. We didn’t we won due to Jatta’s replacement in the starting line up.
Nothing else but the three points.
Some weeks we’ll play brilliantly and get nothing. Some weeks we’ll play terribly and get three points.
Some weeks we’ll be average and etc etc etc.
We came away with three points. Unbeaten in 4. Steady start.
Our aging forward option pulled out a couple of crackers. More minutes for Palmer. Minutes for Gordon. Minutes for Tsaroulla. Abbott got in on it too.
You Pies.
They call us the Magpies we swoop we steal we fly away. J S.
Strong defence and magic finishing snatched victory from the jaws of what would certainly have been defeat last season?
I'll take it!
Surprising tho, we should really have dominated that match.
Swindon's pressing game was good, and our two main playmakers were erratic, meant we couldn't control the game the way we like to.
Didzy has to me seemed really fit and fired up for this season from the off (perhaps he thinks it might be his last, or maybe he like me thinks he underperformed last season) and his goals were top drawer. Theirs was also v good. For all their general press though, they weren't all that exciting in possession.
Professional defending, and a few moments of really slick and quick work through the midfield from Notts make me think there might just be some magic brewing here. Our left is getting there. Abbot looks bright. Bass's solidity (and Platt's) makes such a difference. Not the overall performance we'd like, but some positives, and a great away win like this won't hurt SM's confidence at this point.
eta: their pitch seemed much smaller than Meadow Lane and that made a bit of a difference. Makes me think how wide we were against Grimsby, how even today we're switching well between the wings with Tsaroulla doing well to stay available. Think this is SM using the new home pitch + JJ to our advantage.

With regards Didzy , i think the club should tie him down to become part off the coaching staff once his days are over . The guy sweats and bleeds Notts if you ask me. Not only a top player , but he seems modest, intelligent and a loveable guy , the kind off person you run through brick walls for. Start having the conversation now gents !x
I wholeheartedly agree with every word of your post. Didzy is a fine example and role model of what one of our own is and should be. He is someone for those in the clubs youth system and younger players in the squad to look up to and respect as to what can be achieved in the game. HeÂ’s been there and done it all at every professional level. It could almost be like the role Alan Smith had when he was a player coach. This would be a good fit especially if Didzy feels he is still able to offer something on the pitch beyond this season if his body and stats are still where they need to be by next summer.
agree. That he's feeling more invested in this season could be another reason why he's so up for it. Great for us
eta: SM would have to be on board with a Didzy role in coaching/mentoring. If this is happening, it also reflects (well, imo, so far at least!) on SM's management.
