Aberdeen finished ninth the three seasons prior to McInnes taking over. As you say, eight or nine seasons in a row he had them top four....with the same budget the previous managers had them fighting relegation with. He wouldn't necessarily be my no.1 choice, but my f*cking God I'd take him right now.
If you are going down line of an experienced manager, Alec Neil and Stephen Robinson have better reputations for giving youngsters a chance. A big chunk of Aberdeen fans don't rate McIness, which is no different from the Hearts or Utd fans opinion of Neilson despite his success, so I wouldn't be quick to dismiss their views seen as they've had to watch his teams the past 7 seasons or so. For what it's worth, I don't have a problem promoting from within, just too big a gamble at this juncture with a squad that at present will be up against it again next season.
Here is the phone call in the mind O the Boat anyway.
Hello is that you Derek?
Yes who is it?
Its Big Tony the owner er Sporting Director of DUFC,how do you fancy the role of Head Coach with a free role?.
Sounds good Tony i will give the Doc a phone and tell him to get his interview suit pressed.
Sorry Derek we just need you as Adam and Tam are already in place.
See you later Tony goodnight.
Of course the fact he’s been interviewed doesn’t mean jackschit of course. That could just give Big Tone plausible deniability when he unveils big Tam and claims he was the best of the candidates interviewed......................
McIness is a Hun. Aberdeen fans didn't want him in the first place. Robinson jumped ship at Well the first sign things got tough. Does he have the bottle for a club like Utd? Alex Neil I'd take in a heartbeat. Oh yes. Like GB though, I'll be astonished if any experienced manager comes near this job.
With Tam at 1/3 ON it looks set in stone but there is still hope please see below.
