What's your vision of the right model or approach? What needs to change, and how? Playing style? Recruitment? Type of manager? The owners? We know what some posters are against, but what are they agitating for?

In my case promotion, simple as that. I'm not clever enough to formulate a detailed plan as to how to make it happen, but promotion is pretty much all I want. I'm not asking for the Championship or even League 1, just for us not to be a non-league club.

I echo much of what Jackal says really. I’ve seen comments about the lack of progress, and that we’re getting steadily worse (I think I even said the same a few days ago in a moment of despair), but when I stopped to think about it I was wrong.

Professionalism, match day experience, style of play, team spirit, positivity from within the club, communication, marketing, condition of the stadium, investment in the facilities, training ground, consistent and effective recruitment (can’t believe some are questioning this still!), and behind the scenes information and press releases (training ground footage, interviews etc)…….

These are just off the top of my head areas In which the owners have overseen massive improvements within the club, all whilst dealing with a pandemic, not being able to recruit oversees players through their system, and also managing to get us to respectable finishing positions in the league.

Yes, there are areas on the pitch that need improvement but look how far we have come in three years against the odds. The owners have a massive summer ahead, and a massive head coach appointment to get right…but you know what, I’ve more confidence in them getting it right than I have any other owner since I started following Notts…..all whilst not risking everything on it.

We all want that!

It's the route to it that's tricky to plot, but I think that's the case for all of the 'contenders' in the National League, including the Hollywood megastars. If the Reedtz brothers took us to promotion ahead of them I'd rather enjoy it, but that's a big ask.

Just for the record I was bitterly disappointed too, particularly about Notts, but not anywhere near to the point of giving up hope. I've felt far worse about our future prospects in the past.

I think we've seen a couple of new signings in the past couple of days alone that give plenty of cause for optimism, similar to the recruitment of Cal Roberts. We're signing young(ish) up-and-coming players who probably have their best years ahead of them and will be full of ambition, on wages we can presumably afford.

I can accept that any club's ownership, management model and philosophy (if they have one) will never be universally popular with all fans, and message boards like this will always be a forum for those who aren't convinced, but surely if you're going to criticise or even dismiss the current approach then the next step is to set out what you want to change, otherwise it's all a bit meaningless.

As I've said before, I'm happy with the owners and broadly happy with the overall set-up of the club. I think there are greater levels of professionalism throughout the club today than we saw in the past. My only criticism is that, on the pitch, we dropped some stupid points away from home and looked too much of a soft touch too often, but that can be addressed by adding the right type of steely players to what we already have, and adopting a slightly more pragmatic style of play without abandoning the idea of an attractive football philosophy. That's my constructive criticism. What do others want to see change?

I don't think the owners are the fearsome, uncompromising ideological tyrants that a few folk seem to believe - in fact anything but that!

However, putting that aside, I agree with you that the new Head Coach needs to be a strong personality and leader with a clear idea of how they want to go about things, but without being as one-dimensional (playing-style wise) as IB was. They need to have a Plan B and C and know when to deploy it.

We were not a non-league club, in fact a couple of tiers higher, when too many could not stand Keith Curle's approach in particular to home games.

But that’s the issue ain’t it. You can do basically everything right, have a perfect plan and still not get promoted, because that’s how football works.

I hope this new head coach is of the mind-set of doing whatever it takes to get promoted rather than trying to do everything right.

What I think you’re struggling to do is view these two things differently.

I’m of the idea that our aim at this level is always promotion, and if we don’t achieve it then we’ve not hit where we should. I think one of the reasons that we didn’t this season was we maybe didn’t have that ‘we need to win this’ mentality going into every game, particularly some of those tricky away ones.

BUT I also don’t think that not getting promoted means that everything we’re doing is wrong, every one needs to be sacked, everything is terrible and we need to do the opposite next year. If anything I think that’s even less likely to get us promoted.
