I like that we weren't at our best with a good excuse to play 2nd rate football and still won.
Times gone by we could so easily have lost that one and blamed tired legs, pressure, grass, stale cheezels, whatever. I much prefer victories to excuses. This is better.
Another 3 points and top of the league for another week. A gap appearing between top 2 and the rest. And we have played most of the top 10.
Next five league fixtures
MAIDSTONE
Wealdstone
TORQUAY
BROMLEY
Southend
Bromley clearly the toughest on current form but I think we can and should be looking at 15 points. 13 points would be a reasonable return and would pile the pressure on the rest. The Maidstone game is on the Friday which gives us an ideal chance to put pressure on Wrexham and opening up a gap (if we win) even if it’s just a few hours.
Wrexham’s next 5
Borehamwood
HALIFAX
ALTRINCHAM
MAIDENHEAD
S****horpe
I’d expect Wrexham to win all 3 home games but the 2 away games IMO are more of a challenge than the 2 we have (Borehamwood are up there and S****horpe are undefeated in 6 at this moment)
We were comfortable throughout most of the second half as they clearly ran out of steam after their first half efforts.
We had a great 15-20 mins where we missed 3 very good chances. The penalty for the handball came out of the blue and naturally changed things.
However the first half was a very different story as earlier described. Second best, poor but very clinical.
Forest Green Rovers 1 v 0 Bolton Wanderers
Well that's certainly an impressive win against the 6th placed side. A huge win for IB, but surely only a stay of execution? Until they lose their next 3 we league games of which which results in a change of head coach. I've seen it in the tea leaves.
It's a real bugbear of mine tbh the amount of times we give possession away almost instantly from a throw in is shocking.
We were indeed closely marked yesterday but our issue was only Palmer made any movements to get free each time. Surely if two or three make contrasting movements you are more likely to get free to cushion a ball back to the throw in taker to then maintain possession. Makes it harder for the opposition to react and track all the movement.
I'll let someone else comment on those near post corners yesterday![]()
Having watched the extended highlights, it was clear that their first came of the striker's hand and was not going in from the initial block. Their second goal was very harsh on Mitchell, who had zero chance of getting his hand out of the way. For all their apparent domination in the first half, they had no clear cut chances, and we were very clinical. The second half looked more like the usual Notts, playing it around nicely.
Considering Bromley's position in the league and their home record this season, I think we can be very pleased with our efforts yesterday. It was also encouraging to read their fans thoughts about the game and how impressed they were with us. Sometimes I wonder if Charlie Slater expects every game to be a walk in the park.
