I’m not sure Starc would agree about the catch. Personally I thought it was OK, until that is, the rule was read out and the 3rd umpire explained his decision.
The Bairstow incident, I can’t agree with you on. Any normal batter would make sure the keeper has moved the ball on. Ordinarily they throw to a slip. Bairstow was arrogant enough to not even look. Next you’ll be saying that batters can’t be stumped. The only reason some are miffed is because it doesn’t happen. Doesn’t make it wrong.
I can’t buy in to this ‘spirit of the game’ nonsense either. No rules were broken. Just like watching bouncer after bouncer after bouncer.
I was talking Sheff United v Arsenal as I remember not Notts County 🤷🏻

I certainly won’t be saying that batsman can’t be stumped( don’t 2nd guess what I will say next please &#128540 the ball was dead we didn’t intend and didn’t gain anything for Bairstow walking out his crease a good number of seconds even a minute after Carey caught it
As you say we will have to agree to disagree

Correct, the game of cricket doesn’t have a rule book, it doesn’t exist.

Kanu and Overmars vs Sheffield Utd comes to mind. Why should sportsmen/sportswomen/sportsthem/sportsthey be held to a higher standard? We have posters on this forum who admit to stream stealing. Who is in the wrong?

Law 1.4 clearly states that “The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within The Spirit of Cricket as well as within the Laws”.
Bairstow wasn’t trying to steal a run. If, as the Aussies say, they had seen him do several times previously then they should have warned him and made their intention known. That is how the game is meant to be played, no wonder MCC members were furious.

Is this in the rule book/laws you said doesn't exist?

No, I said there are no rules in cricket. I quoted a law.

You are saying a batsman can’t be stumped because you are debating that very point. Bairstow was stumped not run out. The ball wasn’t dead ‘end of’ as Carey threw done the stumps. You must have paused your TV to get to an opinion of the ball had been with Carey for a number of seconds or even a minute after Carey caught it.

What’s the difference between a law and a rule? When I checked the Oxford dictionary, it kept throwing in stuff like
    2. a rule defining correct procedure or behaviour in a sport.
    "the laws of the game"

    As such I’m confused.
