Iain Phillip is a great example of a coach going back to his old club for a player he knew would fit perfectly into the side he was building.
Unfortunately our new manager doesn't have that luxury.

But Brian you need to get something straight, posters who you are debating with tonight love the club and there's a big difference between deep concern which is legitimate and turning on the club.

If you're happy that we're going into the first game of the season with the existing forward midfield options that's fine by me but it's also fine to want better.

And only 2 strikers btw, one of them is Clark.

Well let's sum it up. You're slagging me off for turning on the club, I'm not going to ignore that.

You're happy with things, many are not.
Let's leave it at that because you've not changed your position in weeks and I'm not changing mine.

Not really happy mate would love to come on here tomorrow and see utd have signed 11 new players all better than what we have but if it does not happen will just have to go with what we have and put my trust in my club their manager and players like I have done all my life even when I never thought they had the best team in the world.

    I say again, Greg Stewart.

Barrie McKay appears a bit of a risk if his early career is to be believed from Wiki.

Can only think its because he is 31 and no sell on prospects.

To be fair mate the two signings we have made are no spring chickens know people like to make out utd will just sign kids to sell on but the facts say exactly the opposite.

I wasnt trying to imply that we are only looking to sign kids as there is so much more to the Academy side than i realised myself. If ive picked it up right in the case of players, they are either brought in with an eye to making money, or there is something else they can bring to that cause. That something else may be a mentor, or as a future head coach.

In Greg Stewart, he is a player i do like and think he can bring something to the playing side for 3/4 years, but he is too old to have a future sell on value. He has never struck me as the kind of player that would become a future head coach, where Mulgrew strikes me as the perfect candidate to become a head coach that comes through our ranks over time.

I did understand where you were coming from and hope you take this in the same spirit.

We have retained certain players that at other clubs would not have been retained. Imo the reason weve done that is as an insurance policy while we play more Academy players in the first 11. I posted this last night.

We bought Shankland and Fuchs partly in Shanklands case to get us up but to profit on. Pretty sure TA considered Fuchs might be the next Kamara. So there's your model. Sell in potential or youth prospect.
Edwards was a MM signing which TA agreed to in order to keep us in the division and between him and Benji they did.
Mulgrew is regarded as odd because Reynolds is still here. Maybe they thought Edwards/Smith/Reynolds were away, but he still fits the profile of older players who can steady youth flooding into the first 11.
