Ram You obviously very limited in your knowledge about fishing then ,I've never seen anybody tear a fishes flesh , In certain the Lairds in Scotland and our Royal family would not count as common folk they fish all the time . As for discarded line injuring animals ,it does occasionally happen and I can't condone that . But it's usually a story hyped up by the media .So I take it you don't eat salmon, tuna, cod etc because they are all taken out of their environment I've fished all my life ,never killed one but in many times I've caught the same fish within minutes of returning it . If it wasn't for the 1.8 million fishing licence holders who pour millions of pounds into the Environment agency coffers , anglers are the ones who report pollution and poaching which believe me is in a massive scale with Eastern Europeans who poach in a massive scale because they eat all and any fish I'm not trying to protect fishing because I know it's highly emotive subject I just think people should look beyond the media hype

You're correct in my lack of knowledge about fishing mista and I am aware of various studies saying that it doesn't harm the fish. Its just that my logic tells me that a living animal having a hook in its flesh on the inside of its mouth and then struggling against the hook, to escape, must suffer from some physical and/or mental truma, if it has some kind of brain.

I'm aware that the upper classes love their fishing also, but my point is that banning fishing would be as popular as banning football in this country, it is a sport of the general masses.

Ram I can well understand you not having much knowledge on fishing its like a lot of things unless you actually do something you rely on what you read or are told Fishing has so moved on from how it used to be literally thousands of fisheries now have man and women's toilets ,cafes in site ,strict rules on many things like barbless hooks ,unlocking mats to protect the fish ,no keepnets etc the owners of these fisheries pay thousands of pounds for their fish so they are not going to let you abuse them You are correct about discarded line ,hooks causing damage to birds animals etc It shouldn't happen but it gets hyped up ,considering how many people actually fish those sort of incidents are very rare They are usually the fault of inexperienced anglers in local council owned parks waters

I’m almost as poor at the former and, although it is what I meant, I’ve never understood the attraction of the latter.
