Some folk already have a very hard time understanding the basic difference between opinion and fact, so they are going to be completely bamboozled with a law versus a rule

Bairstow did not 'get what he deserved' at all.
durham if you think cricket is boring, I guess you wouldn't have watched enough to have that opinion.
That was a herculean effort by England after being 45-4, after two close games, this series could still go either way.
It wasn’t Mankad, Bairstow wasn’t at the non striker’s end.

You could debate ‘the spirit of the game’ all day. The bottom line is that Bairstow shouldn’t have needlessly given Carey the opportunity to stump him. England can try to take the moral high ground here but in truth Bairstow wouldn’t have been switched on enough to get an Australian batsman out in that way. Which is one of the reasons we’re 2-0 down.

As some would say, 'It's just not cricket', definitely not how I would want the game to be played.
After seeing footage of Bairstow trying to do it when they were batting, he fully deserved it.

It was out. Not a question. Wicketkeepers do this to keep batsmen honest.

    Bairstow is an idiot.

But it still leaves a bitter taste for me. Regardless of whether England would do it or not, I wouldn’t. But I’m not Cummins.

Totally unsportsmanlike and if I were Captain I would have called him back law or no law.

Then we get onto the 'catch'. Call me stupid but when I played if you grounded the ball in your hands it was not out. In fact you'd do everything in you power not to ground the ball in such a situation which would often result in the ball popping out. That's exactly what would have happened if he had tried. In my book its cheating pure and simple.

I also had an incident playing against Boots where a well known ex Notts player (played for both Forest and Notts) used his knee to knock the bails off when the ball missed my off stump. The umpire gave me out. Luckily I knew the said Player and was friends with his Son and he called me back as I started to walk then winked at me. Maybe a joke, maybe not, just glad I knew him.

I did not say it was a Mankad. I have no problem with a Mankad as the batsman is obviously trying to gain an advantage, why should the bowler not be able to run him out. In Bairstow's case, he was clearly not seeking to run or gain an advantage.
You do not have to be switched on enough, to do something you would never even think about doing.
The law clearly needs changing now to say that the batsman needs to ground his bat after the ball every ball before leaving his crease, Something I always did when playing cricket anyway.
I wonder if the Bairstow bashing is coming after his actions in the Aussies first innings.

It was amusing to watch Broard take the p#ss at every opportunity after.

Way I see it there was a difference between yesterday and other examples of England doing it which is supposed to prove England are hypocrites.

Bairstow didn't forget to make his ground, he got back in his crease and scratched it. It is out at the end of the day, but it's not like batsmen freezing outside the crease during an appeal for LBW or similar stuff that people are posting.

Stokes not best pleased, but then again you would expect that.

    Team news:

As has become the norm under the Stokes-McCullum regime, England have announced their XI ahead of the toss.

Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali come into the side to replace Ollie Pope, who is out for the series, and James Anderson and Josh Tongue, both of whom are rested.
