On holiday in Spain today. Watching the game in a pub and shouting like ****. A WBA fan comes across and says “All WBA fans want your manager”. “He is a legend”. I explained to him our record in the big games. Take him now please.

Hell, their second goal is a prime example of the risks of going gun hoe against Celtic.

I also recall a game at Parkhead, when we pumped them in the first half, Celtic were backs to the wall, yet the get a corner from a hashed clearance and scored right before half time.
Think we lost that one by 3 or 4.

Gun hoe can be exciting, but hugely risky and hugely likely of a hadefeat against better teams.
Being solid ad counter attacking should provide a better chance of staying in the game and getter better results.
It's gung ho! Gun hoe must be out of grand theft auto. And we never pressed. We sat in until Celtic got 10 yards inside our half. When behind there was a higher pressing in the 2nd half. DM didn't believe he could win and would have been delighted with nil Nil. To my eyes we never threatened and Celtic cruised it playing within themselves. For our boss to praise himself after another defeat, well it's just wrong.

Im a member of the hat as well and saw one post today that pretty much sums it up just now.

The performance yesterday makes me believe the club has no further ambition. Aberdeen FC is achieving everything it wants to achieve. Respectable league positions, chance of a cup maybe. We have accepted Celtic's position as our lord and master. In the next few seasons, if not sooner, we will bow down to Rangers completely and allow them to resume their rightful position above us.

With our approach that is simply inevitable. Rangers have ambitions to be #1, our ambition is to try and cling on to what we already have. If Celtic were playing Rangers at Ibrox would Rangers have taken that approach to the game?

If we had beaten Celtic yesterday that would have put real pressure on them for the rest of the season. They'd have known that. This wasn't just about putting pressure on them in one game, but for the rest of the campaign. The stakes were real for Celtic so we chose to put pressure on ourselves and try to soak it up. We didn't have a shot on target until deep into the second half. If we'd had a go and given the fans something to get behind we could have flipped the script.

Our game plan was total capitulation. Our mentality is that of the best wee club. We can beat all the wee diddy clubs quite happily, but we run feart of the bigger ones and take a spanking.

Putting the stadium issue aside we look to be working towards stagnation or a managed decline. I am unsure how Kingsford will make any significant improvement to our mental attitude. I am clutching at straws though. This attitude stems from our management and is condoned and fully accepted at board level. I can't see any indicators which might improve the mentality or outlook of the club.

That’s a pretty good post. I’d take it one stage further as well. The Hun support wouldn’t allow the club to aim for anything else. It’s in their incredibly shallow gene pool.

I’m not saying for a second we should be more like them before anyone starts but AFC do not want supporters getting uppity. They actively discourage singing, mates sitting together, killing the supporters clubs & the ***n ridiculous loyalty points scheme.

The type of fan they’re after can clearly be seen in this message board & on social media, usually above a hashtag saying allforaurora or indelwetrust.

I've always been a McInnes supporter... but things are beginning to change now.

Difference is last year I could accept 2nd in all competitions was pretty good going against a Celtic team who were outstanding.

This season Celtic are not as good, they have been there for the taking. Rangers are better, but still not great. Hearts and Hibs are decent but beatable. Something is drastically wrong when we can take so few points from our closest rivals. This has been an issue for a couple of seasons - but in the last couple of years it's been primarily an outstanding Celtic we've struggled with. Now it's a decent Celtic, improving Rangers, solid Hearts, and hit and miss Hibs that we're struggling badly against. McInnes takes us into all of these games as if we're underdogs. We shouldn't be. We've been the second best side in Scotland for several years - we should go in as favourites. But we don't have that mentality. We go in to the game nervous about losing a goal, sitting back, trying to keep it tight and hit on the break. We lose a stupid goal through rubbish defending every time, and the game's a write off. It then becomes an almost impossible mission to redress that - because our record is so poor against these 4 sides the players start losing confidence. If you can't take points off 1/3 of the teams in the league, you're not going to be 2nd for very long.

I remember back in the Calderwood days there was some fan at an AGM meeting stood up and said that 3rd place wasn't good enough and Aberdeen FC should have ambitions of winning the league.

He was laughed at by the members of the board which included Willie Miller at the time, I believe Willie told him he needed to be more realistic with his expectations.

The truth is we don’t deserve to be second. Many fans, myself included have been blinded by the good results against lower opposition, but in hindsight they are all games we should have been winning anyway. Celtic haven’t been poor this season, they went unbeaten until the Hearts game in December, however their form hasn’t been as good since and they have looked vulnerable. Even Killie exploited it and got a result.

Rangers, well they started pretty poorly, but they have found form now and they wont lose too many games between now and the end of the season. The trouble is when they were poor, we failed to even put in a good performance against them, let alone try and take a point off of them. Our performances against them have disappointed me more than the Celtic ones, because realistically we should be putting pressure on this Rangers team and getting results. Now that they have found form, it will be a clean sweep for the Old Firm against us this season, something that is not acceptable.

Under any other manager we have had, that would be raising questions about the managers future, however because we have a good points tally against lower opposition, he seems to be okay for now. Do I think he should be sacked? well a month or so ago I would have said no, but the tide is turning. It’s still a no for now, but he has the Scottish Cup to win me back over. If he fails in that with any abject performances, then we seriously need to consider the alternative.

I praised DM for turning down both Sunderland and the huns, however it doesn’t mean he can put in poor performances and still expect the fans praise. That however doesn’t mean that he will get his ears boxed by Stewart Milne, because lets face it, he is a huge Derek fan and will commit to keeping him at Pittodrie for a very long time yet. It will take Derek to walk or someone else to come in for him before he goes. He could lose every game between now and end of season Milne still wouldn’t even contemplate sacking him.

I've always been shot down when I suggested that we should be winning cups. Usually with the "it's not our right" and "we only started winning things in the 80s".

As the 3rd biggest team in Scotland and the 2nd best over the last few years, we surely should, statistically be expected to win more.

    So why haven't we?

For me it's summed up by having our most creative player asked to mark a defender. Then to have folk suggest that it worked.

We will always be no marks as things stand. It'll be back to being happy with finishing 3rd and making semi finals. It's been coming for a while.

I think we had this discussion last year, Im not sure if I shot you down I was merely pointing out we won the Scottish cup twice in our entire history before the 80s and only once since.

There is a lot of things that you can blame McInnes for but I wouldn't say its entirely his fault we haven't won the Scottish cup for nearly 28 years.

Since we last won it Hearts (3 times), Dundee Utd (2 times), Motherwell, Kilmarnock,St Johnstone, Hibs and ICT have all won it, I guess he could be blamed for the last 3 but something has been wrong at our club for a long time, to me one of the main things would be the people at board room level who have watched us getting papped out of the cups by part time teams in the 90s/00s and never saw that as a sackable offence. Now that McInnes is reaching finals and semi finals they see this as a success.
