Having said that, desperate times require desperate measures and although it’s still unlikely to be avoided, relegation was a 100% certainty under the previous incumbent. Sir Craig may reduce those odds to 90%………………

BTW that lot are in for a shock if they think they can get away with calling their new boss a nickname akin to ‘Foxy’. It will be ‘gaffer’, ‘boss’ or ‘manager’ from minute number one.
I agree. It’s a slightly left field appointment but there are times when returning managers do work out.

Eddie Howe at bournemouth one example

I think levein is better than most names being suggested

Levein will need backed if he is to sort it out

I presume to seasons end he will be expected to work with Crawford, Bowman, Mulgrew and the goalie coach

Levein must know Neilson well from their previous time together - and Neilson seemed to work well under big Tony

But did Neilson work well with Tony though? I always found it a bit strange that he was so quick to jump ship to Hearts after doing all the hard work to get us promoted. You'd think he'd want a crack at the top league with his squad that he has worked hard with to gain promotion. I know he has/had a long history with Hearts, but to make the jump from a club you've just got promoted. to a club going down the other way is a questionable move unless you're not happy with your working environment.

Been suspicious about that as well and would add Melon and Courts into that last bit as well.

Yeah, I thought about also mentioning those two as doing reasonably well, supposedly being happy in the job but then suddenly and inexplicably jumping ship during the close season.

Neilson is on at least double the money at hearts than he was at United!

There’s no danger he wasn’t going to make the move.

I really can't see Levein being interested in working with TA & MO.

If it was close season or even just prior to the Jan transfer window a new manager/coach would have a chance to get rid of the dross and bring in some new players to balance the squad and 1st team.

As it stands, whoever comes in is looking forward to working with a broken squad, an incompetent sporting director, nailed on relegation and, oh yeah, an absentee owner that is utterly deluded.

I can't imagine anyone being interested in signing up for some of that.

    I agree.

Is part of it though that Tony views managers as expendable. He loves getting compo in for them like he gets transfer money in with players - I think we got compo for at least 2 of those 3 ?!??

I don’t think the squad is that bad

The glaring problem has been Birighitti - who has cost us at least 10 points imo

Add to that late goals conceded versus Hibs and hearts - another 4 points

We should actually be higher up the league

Also Kilmarnock, opening game, and Celtic at Parkhead - there's another 3 points lost to injury time goals.

Neilson at Hearts is actually another example of someone who is doing well second time around at a club
