Alves still the favourite but I see Jack Wheelchair is now in at 2nd favourite, Des Bucks in 3rd spot now

I bet someone throws a spoke in Wheelchair's bid.

Ironside now third favourite at 3/1.

Wilshire seems like the kind of appointment the club would make under the owners in that it would be giving someone a platform to which they can take the club upwards as well as themselves.

Obviously one of the youngest coaches out there at 33 and has played at the highest level. Will also have some good contacts in the game no doubt. Would surely command the respect of the players.

I think you're all over reacting given the upturn in performance when Alves replaced the Saunders' brothers in January...

    Ha!

Well yes, there was a definite drop-off in the performance of the whole team in the second half of the season, and whether you blame it more on the departure of Saunders or the loss of a creative player in Crowley, the remaining coaching team clearly didn't have the answers. I can see why Alves might still have a supporting role at the club, but whatever he brought to the coaching set-up didn't improve us (or even maintain previous performance levels) after Christmas.

And that's just the results. The performances were generally poor too.

To reiterate, this is a key moment and it needs the appointment of an experienced candidate with a decent Football League management record who can command the respect and boost the enthusiasm of players and fans alike. A bit of anxiety crept in during the latter days of the Maynard reign. What we need now is a firm hand on the tiller to calm any nerves and maintain the solid relationship between the club and the fanbase.

It?s easy to pinpoint games and say this one or that one cost us but when you look at it on paper it?s hard not to think that those two home defeats to Cheltenham (15th) and Barrow (16th) cost us an automatic promotion place. Teams that want automatic promotion should be beating those in the bottom third of the table at home. It wouldn?t have mattered so much had we beaten Colchester and Crewe or picked up a point against Chesterfield or Salford. But because we struggled to beat the likes of Chesterfield, Salford, Colchester and Crewe at home we could not afford to slip up at home against those in the bottom half of the table.

Whatever happens as supporters we will have a good idea of what the playing squad think about the appointment when it is announced.

Should McGoldrick re-sign than that is a positive that the playing staff are behind the coach from the off. Given the lack of announcement on DM future I'm fairly certain he's waiting to see before making his decision.
