Thread: England’s No 1

Why teams want to invite pressure in their defensive third is way beyond me!

Bless his soul, but Ray Deakin would simply go "Whoosh"!

Aye, you can't really imagine Pep signing him if he'd been around at the time, not one for fannying around our Ray.

Whoosh has sadly passed away now and in between marriage 2 & 3, I lived up in Loveclough for quite a while in a cottage near the old Glory pub. Ray used it for his local and I had many a pint with him while discussing his footballing attributes.

I asked him why he always went "long", his reply was fairly obvious, "Have you ever seen me try and pass short?"

I liked Ray, he wore the Burnley shirt with pride and he was quite a lad off the pitch too. R.I.P. pal.

I think that Nick will get the gloves.

    He certainly deserves them.

Not a chance 59, Gareth will go with Pickford until he lets him down playing for England, and he's never let England down yet. Gareth is like Sean in that respect, do your job and you stay in the team.

We shall see Mon Ami, but Gareth can see what we can see and currently Pickford is an accident waiting to happen.

Gareth was on TalkSport today talking about Pickford, of course he was never going to criticise him, he just wouldn't do that, but it was also clear his place in the England team isn't under threat.

As a shot stopper and cross cleaner out Pope has no English equal.

Dyche does not do "fannying about" in our defensive third, Southgate does.

Pope is not going to be preferred to Pickford. End of.
