    Last time I looked and unless you are so adverse to drive past Southampton on the motorway, the most direct vehicle route is via Newbury. Just because you have to go through London on the train doesn't make the A3 the most direct route.

    I see your point although all travel websites send you the A3 way. Virtually identical distances and times. Although as a regular user of the A34, it can be flippin painful with lorries trying to overtake on the hills.
