I am sure it is just a slip of the typing key but Solly was John O'Hare not Hinton.

O'Hare's nickname was Solly because Cloughie said he was better than Del Sol the highly rated Spaniard.

    Mmmmm...

One played over 250 games and was present in two Championship winning sides.

The other played less than 70 games.

I reckon I can predict the outcome of who most Derby fans think was best.

I'm the bloke on ClaretsMad who rated James better. The problem is this. James wasn't at his best for you (injuries?), and he wasn't at the Baseball Ground long. He was even less impressive when he went to QPR. However, in his 1st two spells at Turf Moor he was electric, as he was for Swansea in their promotion season and in the 1st when they finished 3rd, I believe. He also ripped England apart in 1980 at Wrexham.

I agree Hinton was very good, but James at his best offered more variety to his game. He was two footed, fast (if he wasn't so quick at Derby, then maybe he wasn't so fit), and was a real match winner. Unfortunately I feel you didn't see him at his best, although I remember him giving the Rams the lead at Turf Moor to a barrage of boos (Clarets fans turned on him after he left 1st time but promptly forgot their ill-feeling when he returned at only 25).

Leighton James was voted player of the 70s on ClaretsMad ahead of Martin Dobson, which says it all. And remember that in

If Alan Hinton who was pushed out of the Forest side by Ian Storey-Moore was so great why did you then go and try sign Ian Storey-Moore.
