    Its happened before, ask any of the Brethren about the Pope's support for Billy of Orange and how said Billy had a prominent regiment of Catholics called the Dutch Blue Guard.     No. The UK (and Scotland) is largely secular these days. I don't think religion comes into political issues at all... or constitutional ones.
