As I've said on countless occasions Nolan occupy's the space that a creative player should be operating from. He is unable to beat his man with pace or a trick and he possesses neither the vision or ability to unlock a defence with a pass.

Rather unfair on Noble, took a massive step forward last season.

Cole is probably just gonna be there for backup this season incase of injuries. and while not being the most prolific goalscorer he will atleast give defenders a hard time

as for Nolan. well, let's just say that the captain shouldn't be the worst player on the pitch most of the game he plays

Probably a mixture of loyalty, belief and nostalgia mate. I would imagine that Nolan is a good, likeable bloke who has faith in his managers tactics and is happy to bark out BFS's instructions to the other players. In his prime playing alongside Kevin Davis he was an effective second striker with a bit more mobility and Allardyce's tactics

Nolan is our Problem imo we are always 1 man short when he Plays, but apart from Nobles penalties no one else scores Goals in our Team, if it wasn't for Nolan's flourish of Goals in Feb we would have probably been relegated!

And there's the problem. With the princely sum of 7 he was our top scorer last season. After a goal on the opening day, and admittedly having a valid one disallowed at Southampton he didn't score again until 'Quenelle-gate'

Then after his suspensions and awful performances leading to speculation that he'd be stripped of the captaincy and dropped, his goals in February saved our season. Not that Allardyce would ever have considered the idea despite a few sound-bites.

But once he'd done his bit during that run it was pipe and slippers time.

I noticed his as 6th on the list of all-time midfield scorers in the PL when they were talking about Lampard yesterday. It was 68 goals, but withou
