I think its a waste of a valuable world recourse and if someone wishes to give to charity then just do so. Just attention seeking on the part of the participants, IMO.

Had a mate who died from motor neurone disease. Cut down, brutally, prematurely and unsentimentally. A generous and talented man who didn't deserve such suffering.

This is a good cause if you want to donate towards research into prevention and cure.

Celebrities seeking publicity is an unfortunate spin off from all this but if it raises awareness through publicity then personally have no problem with that.

I can't decide if it's a decent charity fundraiser or a thoroughly nauseating load of rubbish...the bigger the craze gets the more I lean towards the latter.
Generally I prefer to chose which charity I give to and how but if nominated I would do it.

I've been nominated but not going to do it, don't like Facebook or being told to donate.
As Kernow says if it raises awareness it ok, but if whichever government is in charge didn't p!ss our money up the wall we wouldn't need to pass the begging bowls around like a certain lower division club.

Miserable skate mug If that's your logic then I hope you don't use your toilet when you go for a piss and that you instead benefit your horticulture by adding nutrients to the soil. Google how much water is used when you flush, in case you were unaware, then pop back on here and have a pop at people supporting charities.

What am I thinking? Skates?!?! Charities?!?! Some things don't mix.

And yet in a survey for the Independent it was found that over 50% of people who have done the challenge have not given to charity. Indeed, 60% did not even know which charity it was being done for.

I know I'm about to be nominated and I know I shall ignore it.
So two days ago you weren't sure whether it was cool or not [source - post #1] and now others have said they're not doing it it's suddenly a "viral stunt" and you'll ignore your nomination.

Always had you down as more of a follower than a leader.

Well I did say 2 days ago I was leaning towards the viral stunt angle so hardly a major change in thinking.

I am working out though if I can do a form of the Homer Simpson version. My garden does lend itself to that possibility.
