    Before i had the 1600E i had a souped up MK3 Cortina and the mrs refused to get in it for fear of embarrassment should she be spotted,the steering wheel looked like a chrome chain which was ace until it failed its MOT because of it...

    The best car that i ever owned was a Toyota Crown Super Saloon which i took up the motorway to Liverpool and went the fastest that i have ever been in a car...

    Awesome for a boring family saloon...

    Was thinking of getting a Ford focus but alas don't think we can afford it. A very nice car though.

    The first two series of The Sweeney featured a Consul 3.0 GT, easily distinguishable from a Granada by the twin spotlights in front of the grill. They were popular with police at the time as they had stiffer suspension than the Granada, which they would beef up even more.




    As for a classic Escort, I'd hunt for a mk1 1300E which had a walnut dash and the extra dials like the Cortina 1600E had. both of these are very rare now, there's only a few hundred of each left on the road, hence they command mega bucks if they're in even half decent nick.

    One of the best in the medium SUV range is the Nissan Qashqai. British built, reliable, been a huge sales success so plenty available second hand for sensible money. The 1.6 diesel has plenty of torque for towing and it's only £30 a year to tax. If you're adamant it has to be at least 2.0 then hunt for a Mazda CX-5. The diesel is actually 2.2 but it's a super economical engine so again only £30 a y
