    re: Playing a Settled Side

I am happy to see rotation based on the opposition, for example a team that plays a high line can be broken down by passes from deep which Omar can provide, however for a team that likes a scrap and mixes it then Eustace is the man for that role. Likewise a team that comes to nullify Hughes can be undone by playing Jeff and Bryson and their deep runs.
My final point, maybe a player seems slightly "off it" in training and that might force SteMac's thinking!!!

I don't think it's a coincidence we've been conceding since Grant has been out - it goes to show how important he is to our back 5. It feels to me like it was the straw that broke the camels back. In a team where some key players are struggling for form and missing through injury (for instance Forsyth, Bryson and Thorne) losing Grant too was too much for us to keep going like we were. Blaming the lack of form/conceding goals on rotation is wide of the mark. We've been struggling to hit the heights of last season from the start of this one.

The good thing is that we're joint 3rd and we've not hit the form of last season. This won't happen until Thorne and Grant are both back. The problem will come when our luck runs out and we stop scraping the wins, this will surely happen, unless of course some of our key players from last season find their form.

Heres one at you the Rapid ... could it be that the current management have not been able to add quality to the existing playing staff the took over from really so changing means a weaker team?

Im with Bear on this and I think it illustrates this Grant being out and a suitable replacement hasnt been sourced just inferior. Odd really as Bear was told by Rush last week one of the reasons Clough was gotten rid of was because of 'aquisitions' was it you posted about the forum?

Rapid started a thread around this time last year which was something long the lines of "is anyone else disappointed?", in regards to Grant. He was playing rather poorly. Steele came in and made all the difference.

Clough brought in Fielding and Legzdins, both of whom, by his own admission, weren't good enough. Butland's an England u21 keeper whose played very little football recently. He's a good addition no doubt, Steele just needs time with him.

some very unreasonable criticism of butland. he kept us in the game at blackpool and made a couple of smart saves on Tuesday night. I can't actually remember him making any mistakes, correct me if I'm wrong?

because of the way we play I think it's his kicking that people have been disappointed with.

if 2 new centre halves play with each other for the first time then people always give them some slack as they have to 'build and understanding' with one another. I don't see how the goalkeeper is that different. commanding the box isn't just a skill it's also an understanding with your defenders. take grant for example, there used to be mix ups with Keogh almost every week at the start of last season, now days that almost never happens.

great point on eric steele D_D. I think he's played a huge role in improving grant's game and credit to grant for sorting himself out. as has been said though I assume butland will head back as soon as grant's fit again.
