The argument the opening poster makes is equally applicable to Celtic.
Scottish football 'needs' no team. That's a fact. The top division has been a breath of fresh air without Rangers, and frankly it would be the same without Celtic too.
However, there's a lot to be said for a Scottish Premier League where Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, United and Rangers and Celtic are all strong.
Football goes in cycles so this is unlikely to ever be the case where all teams are competing, but it's plain daft to say Scottish football is better off with 3 big clubs in the Championship.
I'd rather Aberdeen were doing well with Rangers, Hearts and Hibs all in the league. If those clubs got their act together then it'd make it harder for Celtic and theoretically make it easier for others to sustain a title challenge.
As it is, I'm hopeful my team can keep Celtic in check over the next couple of months until we play them again and at least make a go of it this

Nice to read a considered post here, though, thanks.
It's easy to become militant when you have people with a superiority complex, those who are massively uninformed, or those who use their platform in the media to tell us that Scottish football is Celtic and Rangers, full stop. I'm guilty of being militant too sometimes.

You need a history lesson. 20 years ago, my club, Celtic, was on its knees, getting crowds of 15,000 on a good day, signing duff players and generally being mismanaged by families who thought it their divine right tae rule. Before the bank stepped intae close us down Fergus McCann put down an £8m bond tae prove that the club would sort itself out and get out of the crippling debt and stagnation.
Since then, the club has been rebuilt by fans money thanks tae share issues that we dipped intae our savings tae fund. We have rebuilt a stadium and infrastructure around it tae house 60,000 fans (must have seemed very extravagant back when McCann anounced this), we invested heavily in the playing squa

We were in no position tae carve anything up in the final days of the Whytes and Kellys, The H-ns were well ahead of us in all departments, clubs like Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell were far more stable than us. The only reason Celtic are where they are now is because the faith of the fans and the foresight of McCann. you still expect us tae subsidise you though, not a chance ya shower of beggers, raise yer own finances. Nae doubt ye will explain what exactly we "carved up" ?Originally Posted by CB_1874
